Where to go?[edit]

{{RFCsoc | section=Proper redirect !! reason=Request editor comments (to stop revert war) on whether "Fedor" should redirect to the page of [[Fedor Emelianenko]] or to disambig page for [[Fyodor]], an alternate spelling of the name. !! time=21:29, 27 October 2007 (UTC)}}

Request editor comments (to stop revert war) on whether "Fedor" should redirect to the page of Fedor Emelianenko or to disambig page for Fyodor, an alternate spelling of the name. Tuckdogg 21:29, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was waiting for User:MMAfan2007 to follow his own advice and discuss his rather controversial edit. Apparently, he feels such is only necessary for people who disagree with him. I guess my point didn't come across as desired and I apologize for not taking the lead in a discussion to end this pointless reverting. As for the redirect, it is inappropriate to redirect a common first name to a single person, unless this person is the only notable person with that name. That is of course not the case. People seem to have decided to romanize to Fyodor on Wikipedia and to have the disambiguation page there, with Fedor redirecting to Fyodor. An argument could be made to have it the other way around, with Fedor being the disambiguation and Fyodor the redirect. But to have Fedor redirect to Fedor Emelianenko, thereby leaving the other Fedors without a redirect, is out of the question.--Atlan (talk) 21:51, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I absolutely agree. It is an inappropriate redirect. Fedor Emelianenko is not the most notable Fedor ever, or even a famous enough person to warrant the redirect. Sure, in the MMA world he gets away with being called by only his first name, but that doesn't carry over to everywhere else. Thesaddestday 22:33, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed as well. Fedor --> Fyodor is the way to go. Tuckdogg 05:36, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was not aware that Fedor isn't the only popular Fedor, my apologies. The Anti-Vandalism King 19:12, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that settled it fast. I've gone ahead and removed the RfC notice. east.718 at 19:30, 10/28/2007

2008[edit]

There is no damn discussion. Type "fedor" in google and see what happens. Face it, those "kings" or whoever those make believe people are...they are not notable fedors or fyodors, whatever. Fedor Emelianenko is more notable than any other Fedor.

This is Wikipedia, not Google. A name doesn't have to lead to whatever the number one google hit is and in most cases shouldn't. Also, saying the other people named Fedor don't actually exist just makes you look stupid.--Atlan (talk) 21:22, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I happened on this page while reverting vandalism. MMAfan is in the wrong, just because some person shows up on google does not make them notable. If he continues to be disruptive to WP he will be blocked.— dαlusquick link / Improve 21:39, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, I believe he's been sufficiently warned regarding his disruptive behavior. Hopefully we won't have to keep doing this whole "he reverts, 50 people tell him he's wrong, he backs down, then comes back again" every six months like we are now.
