This article makes it seem like all the cars that had "312 B3" as part of their nomenclature were all the same. They are a series of cars listed as separate entities by Ferrari themselves. Define "different". The 312B3 certainly was heavily modified between 1973 and 1974, but it was essentially the same monocoque and engine, the fundamental factors when assessing whether a car is a variant or a completely new design. Using evidence from the Ferrari site (as you suggest) shows that the engines are near-identical, and the monocoques are listed as types 628 (1973) and 628B (1974). They are not a "series" of cars, but one is a development of the other. The 312B series itself was a true series, but all sharing a basic architecture and design ethos, hence being covered by one page. You back me up more than contradict. You note how it's not 628 for 1970 and then just A B C D added for the following years. So 1974 was an updated version of 1973 chassis. Hmm, that still leaves 1973 being new and not an update of 1972. No sarchasm intended, I'm just a bit non-plussed by your post. --Amedeo Felix 15:33, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't intending to contradict, just clarify! Your precise example was the 312B3, so I followed up on that. In this case, you really can't justify splitting the '73 and '74 incarnations up, as their developmental history and fundamental design are intimately linked, although I agree that this page does not adequately treat the modifications made for '74. Now you want to introduce the 1970 car? Ok. From a design point of view the B and B2 are similarly evolutionary, whereas the B3 was revolutionary, being Ferrari's first true stressed-skin, stressed-engine, monocoque car. Well that is true, but I still don't see why that automatically means that they shouldn't be represented on the same page. I have already agreed that the wording could be changed to emphasise the differences. Pyrope 11:39, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
