Inconsistency?
[edit]I’m confused. On this page it says “The First Battle of Châtillon (5 July 1793) during the War in the Vendée saw the Vendean Royalists defeat a French Republican raiding force led by François-Joseph Westermann. The rebel Catholic and Royal Army virtually destroyed the Republican column, only Westermann and a few hundred cavalrymen escaping the disaster.”
But on the Wikipedia page for the “War in the Vendée” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_the_Vend%C3%A9e it says “Jean Baptiste Kléber arrived from Mainz with a veteran army to suppress the rising. At the First Battle of Châtillon, southeast of Cholet, he inflicted one of the first defeats on the insurgents.”
So who won the battle? The Royalists defeating Westermann or the Republicans lead by Jean Baptiste Kléber? What am I not understanding?
