Dude character casting credit
The character is a composite portrayed by both Aaron W. Reed and Ryan Renolds. As such I am not sure how to list that in the article. Harizotoh9 (talk) 02:23, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Do you not agree with the current format? If so, I am open to suggestions. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:00, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Current format is awkward but I'm not sure how to improve it. It's similar to a situation where David Prowse plays the body of Darth Vader, while James Earl Jones plays the voice. Both should be credited. Harizotoh9 (talk) 11:03, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Music
There's no music or soundtrack section yet, otherwise I would have just added this, but I was surprised to learn that the non-Mariah Carey version of Fantasy featured vocals from Jodie Comer[1] -- 109.76.136.121 (talk) 06:14, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Millie gives the rights to her code to Antwan:
This keeps getting changed, and it is confusing, but she explicitly gives Antwan the rights to her code:
- Millie: Look, I just want the world that I built and the people in it.
- Antwan: What's in it for Antwan?
- Millie: Everything else.
- Antwan: Meaning? Pretend I'm dumb.
- Millie: You have the rights to our code, keep all the profits, just give me what's left of Free City. Let me build my own world from there.
- Antwan: What about Free City 2? Free City 3? And all pursuant spin-offs?
- Millie: All yours. Just put down the axe.
Antwan has the code and the rights to it. Chaheel Riens (talk) 19:56, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

- Yes, but why are you telling me this, when my above edit didn't increase the word count, and my contributions here have consistently[2] reduced[3] the[4] plot[5] count?[6] One could almost assume that I'm familiar with not only the plot of this film, but also FILMPLOT as a policy? Petition for Wikipedia Page for Guy
Can he? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laughdog26 (talk • contribs) 15:01, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
- If you mean an article for the character, similar to that of Mario or Indiana Jones (character) - probably not. At the moment there's not enough justification or notability to warrant such an article. It would almost certainly be a stub and nominated for merger back into this one.
- You could always start an article in your own draft space, and see how that turns out though. Chaheel Riens (talk) 18:32, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
- Please see WP:GNG, it is highly unlikely that there enough to support any articles beyond this one. User:Chaheel Riens did make a great suggestion, you can learn more about creating WP:DRAFT articles and gather information in your own userspace draft page until some point in the future when maybe there there is enough information for a separate article. -- 109.76.145.225 (talk) 23:19, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Production details and Uncharted
This Start class article could do with some expansion. I tried to add more details to the Production section using reliable sources.
Another editor started edit warring, repeatedly reverted my changes without any explanation.[7][8] The other editor did not point to any Wikipedia guidelines as explanation but eventually in a third revert the edit summary said the changes were "Overly detailed".[9] and no further explanation was given. WP:BRD I guess I have to start a discussion.
Adding more details seem like the normal way to improve an article. Wholesale reverting of multiple edits without any edit summary does not seem like a good faith response to such changes. If User:Maxbmogs had made specific deletes or their own changes it would be understandable but this did not make sense.
I'm willing to discuss deletes if editors explain their objections. The other revert of my changes to the Marketing section by Eik_Corell (talk · contribs) [10] made some sense and I did try to do make a better version of that edit to address his concerns.[11] I understand that maybe Reynolds and Waititi joking about Green Lantern (film) maybe should be done differently and that may need further discussion, but the gag grabbed attention and I think it was key part of the early promotion of the film until the pandemic delayed everything. Maybe not as expensive as the Korg Deadpool gag but still a significant part of the promotion.
What I still don't understand is reverts or deletes without explanation. User:Maxbmogs seems to object to mentioning that director Shawn Levy was working on adapting a real video game into a film before this film, it seems relevant and it is reliably sourced. Levy even said "I feel like being liberated from literal adaptation was a gift" contrasting the development of Uncharted with Free Guy[12] and that is important to the Design of this film. -- 109.79.161.174 (talk) 01:49, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm looking at the later revisions, and I do not see anything in that that I would call "overly detailed", and it is all reasonable sourced. This material should be included. --Masem (t) 02:51, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment, I think it helped a lot. I waited a while and restored the text again. User:Maxbmogs added a wiki link but did not comment. I guess my changes are acceptable (mostly) and are more likely to be rewritten than deleted entirely. I think the Production section needs more, of something, but I'm not sure what exactly, so if I get any good ideas I might try adding more in another few weeks. -- 109.79.164.223 (talk) 00:18, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

- Per WP:CASTLIST, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate list of information and only the most relevant cast members (ie, based on billing, speaking roles, named roles, etc) should be included. The person you keep trying to insert doesn't fit this guidance. --ZimZalaBim talk 17:35, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Genre
Please see WP:FILMGENRE. Please show your sources before adding genres. Please try to stick to the primary genre.
An editor removed all the genres from the intro[13] The Deadline reference and Syfy reference that were/are in the intro call the film an "action comedy" and a "comedy" so I added those genres back.[14] There are many other possible genres that this could be classified under but we cannot and should not mention them all, these two seem like the most important. -- 109.78.199.36 (talk) 10:39, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- An editor removed all but one genre from the lead.[15] It was not either of the two genres I previously restored based on the existing sources. It is not clear how that editor decided that science-fiction was the sole single primary genre best suited to describe this film. It would be helpful if the reasons for the choice of genre could be made clearer, otherwise people are just going to add more genres. Based on the two previously mentioned sources "comedy" would seem to be the most appropriate genre if we have to pick just one. -- 109.79.175.86 (talk) 21:52, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- Editors have not explained their changes and have restored aggressive warning comments[16] despite no sources and no consensus. Other editors have gone ahead and changed the genre anyway.[17] I have reverted the genres back to the two genres "action comedy" which the first two sources in the article seem to support. I'm only trying to pick the genre that the sources suggest, and if editors believe some other genre should be used then please show your sources already. -- 109.77.204.119 (talk) 17:13, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
Hi
Hola 2603:8000:BB00:3651:9F5:A971:1612:CED5 (talk) 18:38, 18 February 2022 (UTC)
Is this important?
"Levy had previously been attached to the film Uncharted, an adaptation of the video game series of the same name, before he left to make Free Guy.[20]"
What does that have to do, really, with Free Guy? 73.127.147.187 (talk) 10:18, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- If it is not clear enough then I guess the phrasing needs to be improved. Levy had previously been attached make a film about an actual video game directly before making this film about a fictional video game. I think that alone is worth mentioning. Perhaps more context is needed, if you read the referenced article, Levy said: "I feel like being liberated from literal adaptation was a gift. Before this, I was attached to “Uncharted” for a year and a half. I was always conscious that if you adapt a video game, you have to service the expectations. To be in the service of nothing but our own viewing delight allowed us to pull on influences that were disparate and ranged from Grand Theft Auto to Fortnight to Halo to “The Truman Show” to “Elf” and it’s this culturally fluent hodgepodge." If succinctly summarizing that sentiment was simple I'd have done it sooner. -- 109.78.193.194 (talk) 03:02, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
Genre again
An anonymous editor added more genres.[18] Then another editor removed all but that recently added genre in a good faith effort to follow the WP:FILMGENRE guidelines and list only the primary genre.
As I said previously (see Talk:Free_Guy/Archive_1#Genre) the primary genre is not clear so I looked at the reliable sources already included in the lead and used the genres they seemed to suggest, which was "action comedy". Other sources exist, and the genre can be made more clear we can go with something else. Please show sources. (Variety.com[19] for example manages not to mention sci-fi and instead calls it a "Meta-Video Game Rom-Com". The Hollywood Reporter[20] calls it an "adventure-comedy", and also a "video-game-inspired movie".) Again I'm happy to go with what the reliable sources say but it wasn't like any of them were all that certain about the genre. -- 109.77.205.36 (talk) 04:25, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
- Other editors also seem fine with it[21] so long as the WP:FILMGENRE guideline is followed and multiple genres are not listed. -- 109.77.205.36 (talk) 04:41, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
Antwan Hovachelik
With regard to including "Hovachelik" - the argument against seems to be MOS:FILMCAST, but this applies to the actor, not the character played. He is referred to as "Antwan Hovachelik" in the film itself, so that seems reliable enough for inclusion. Chaheel Riens (talk) 21:30, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- But only once, not throughout the movie. Hence it is probably overkill. --Masem (t) 21:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- That doesn't mean his name is not Hovachelik though, which is the point. Surely whether mentioned once, twice, or in every instance that doesn't detract from it being his name, and so a valid addition to the cast/character list?
- The original removing edit summary said "Revert unsourced changes. Character is credited as Antwan. Not clear where full name comes from, or if it should be included at all" - I showed that the film itself is where it came from, and that actually being his name is as valid a reason for inclusion as just "Antwan", "Keys" or "Buddy" listed as character names. Chaheel Riens (talk) 06:48, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- I wanted to keep it simple and follow MOS:FILMCAST, credit the cast as they appear in the end credits, and be done with it. But I do notice some larger inconsistencies in this article that should probably be addressed. The plot section unusually (and unnecessarily) explains explains the full names of "Keys" and "Millie". These are not important plot points. If the full names of the characters were all explained in the Cast/Characters section it would be less weird and inconsistent to also include the full name of "Antwan Hovachelik" in that section. -- 109.79.168.110 (talk) 13:38, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- As I pointed out - FILMCAST refers to the actors, not the characters they play - although I agree about fully naming them in the plot, but not in the cast section. I'd support removal of full names from the plot, and only common-names to be used there, with full and avatar names in the castlist, unless the circumstance would make it confusing.
