Unlike her predecessor's, I believe that this vessel's name is L'HERMIONE. Davidships (talk) 17:43, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hermione Voyage 2015

[edit]

Hi,

Soon, the Hermione will go to see you in America. Is somebody can make pictures of she during is voyage ? You have the itinary there. Thk's CaptainHaddock (talk) 19:07, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

By pure chance, was in Washington on business in June 2015 for a meeting in the Crystal City complex near Washington National Airport. To save money, stayed at a hotel in Alexandria commuting back and forth by Metro. One evening was walking around the old town neighborhood and imagine my surprise to find this ship docked there with a drum and fife corps, dignitaries, etc. Sadly didn't have a camera with me, but it was quite interesting to see her - she looked great! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:801:4280:A710:24B7:6132:34B:9E59 (talk) 23:29, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Galliards?

What are Galliards? I find no definition of a Galliard anywhere online, or on Wikitionary. Is it a french term?

Maybe a late answer. Literally, the very first meaning of the French word gaillard is = a strong valorous guy, mainly deserving.
However, in its naval terminology, the right translation is forecastle, an upper deck on a ship.
In French, we may consider several ‘gaillards’ [forecasles] on a sailing ship, with a ‘gaillard d'avant‘ [forecasle] and a ‘gaillard d'arrière‘ [quaterdeck? below deck? sterncastle? aftercastle —or sometimes aftcastle?].
Have a look on these articles, in English or French, down below:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aftercastle
- https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaillard_(bateau)
I would be glad if that still would help you.
We never know.
By the way, if you are quite fond of ‘vieux gréements' [tall ships], in Rouen [France, Normandy], this week, till this Sunday, June 18th, there is a very special event that gathers tens of tall ships, almost every 5 years, this year more than 30 sailing tall ships, plus 8 other interesting ships.
A joyfull Armada to visit. Mobuzzy (talk) 22:06, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately for ‘L'Hermione’, due to minor demages, she will not be in Rouen this year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mobuzzy (talkcontribs) 22:27, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
