  • Most of the pedigree doesn't seem to be cited. Is it standard practice for horse articles to not cite this (this comment also applies to the grandsire and damsire in the infobox)
    • The damsire is covered by the ref to his entry under his dam in the American Stud Book ref - the stud book entry gives the dam, her sire (damsire in the infobox), her dam and sire of the maternal granddam ... and back futher on the female line. I've added a ref to a tabluated pedigree for Lexington (although that's almost like citing "blue sky" for American TB people, but whatever) and another to cover the maternal granddam and her lines. • "The winner's time was 1 minute 20 seconds" - at least to me, this seems to lack context without General Duke's time
  • Any sources note what his namesake was? I thought it was standard practice to combine the names of the sire and dam, although that might be a more recent practice (Basil W. Duke as a KY general comes across as a possibility)
    • We do not know. There is no "standard practice" with horse naming - it's very ... whatever. Some breeds have common practices, but Thoroughbred breeders don't usually have some system they all follow (some breeders have a system THEY follow but it's never universal)
  • Optional - link the Belmont Stakes in the body (it's a short enough article that it's not a big deal since it's linked in the lead)
  • Is there some sort of link as to what a sweepstakes race is? Or a cup race? The difference between race types is foreign to me and probably many others
    • I do not have a good link for "cup race" - there really isn't a good description - like the heat races, it's no longer seen in racing. My personal understanding (and I can't source this easily) is that it was close to what we'd call an allowance race - with the reward being not just the purse, but a "cup" ... silver and engraved ... as a trophy to the winner. So a step up from the usual "claiming/selling" race, but not quite a stakes race (which is the highest caliber of race). Again - can't source this. Ealdgyth (talk) 13:53, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any special reason why 1968 is chosen as the inflation-conversion year, rather than a more recent year?
  • "His career spanned six years on the track" - so if I'm reading this right, he was still racing as of 1872, but the article barely mentions any races post-1868? Are the sources just that vague on his later career?
    • Yes, they are that sparse. The records probably exist .. somewhere, but he fell off rather rapidly in what type of race he was engaged in - he spent a LOT of time in the lower end races - claiming race and similar. So there isn't much information. Ealdgyth (talk) 14:26, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thompson appears as a trainer in the infobox, but isn't mentioned or cited anywhere else
  • Sources look reliable enough, AGF on spot-checks for GA purposes
  • No images, which is to be expected for the subject

Placing on hold. Hopefully none of these sound too ignorant, where I'm from people race cars, pigs, and dachshunds instead of horses. Hog Farm Talk 21:17, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, not ignorant. I've done a few, but I need to run to the grocery store (i.e. pack up and drive into the "big town" nearby) so it'll be this afternoon before I get to the rest. Ealdgyth (talk) 14:26, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Think I got these? Ealdgyth (talk) 13:53, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
