synopsis
[edit]hi. i just watched this series, and didn't notice any of the scripts referencing the father o'malley and tom colwell characters having been childhood friends. at least a couple of the scripts seem to indicate that they weren't. in 'my son the social worker', colwell explains at length to o'malley that he was embarrassed, while growing up, by his dad always trying to be 'one of the guys', giving examples of his father's other gaucheries w/respect to his (tom's) friends, etc (o'malley wouldn't need this explained if he'd been there). in another episode, someone tells o'malley that colwell had regaled him with stories of his childhood; o'malley says, seemingly straightforwardly, 'really? i'd like to hear some of those myself.' - another seeming indication that he wasn't privy to colwell's youthful experiences.
also, this section says that in addition to gene kelly, the series co-starred leo g. carroll, then mentions dick york's role. york is in fact the second-billed star of the show, after kelly. carroll is billed 3rd, after york. i've noticed a pattern on wiki tv series articles of listing certain shows' stars out of order, perhaps because of personal preferences or remembrances (someone having seen this long ago, remembering carroll more strongly than york, for example. a possibly related example: the 'big valley' article, stating that the show starred barbara stanwyck, whereas richard long was in fact the series' first-billed star), but it would seem to be better to stick to the order in which the cast members were originally billed; the show's makers are a better source for who starred in the show, and in what order. 63.142.146.194 (talk) 00:49, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
