BIZARRE AND HIGH HANDED CENSORSHIP
[edit]SilkTork has deleted the discussion that took place here about the identification of the location of an endangered species of orchid. That is censorship. It is a bizarre and high handed censorship when a section of the article has also been deleted by SilkTork that didn't even identify the location of the orchid. The latter deletion denies people the opportunity of understanding what is the habitat of this orchid - a point I made on the discussion page that has been deleted eg.
"It is important in Britain to understand the natural habitat conditions for woodland wildflowers because we have so little woodland coverage, especially of ancient woodland with native tree species, and we impose so many expectations on that remnant woodland for things such as butterflies etc that we lose sight of the precariousness of our immobile woodland flora. Thus while I have no interest in seeing “THE” Lady’s slipper, it is important to recognise that the habitat conditions of parts of Grass Wood could be ideal for the orchid, a valuable lesson in itself"
Nothing is served by this elitist act of restricting information. Self willed (talk) 17:09, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Personally, I think that the section on the lady slipper's orchid is emotive, evangelising, and doesn't actually contribute to the article. Nothing in the references cited mentions the Grass Wood, and the same words could, without other context which is not given, be applied to a number of locations in the Dales and elsewhere. --Langcliffe (talk) 08:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
The reason that none of the references cite Grass Wood in connection with lady slipper's orchid is that the reference will be removed, as it has been in the past. If you can think of a way around this, then please feel free to give it here. Self willed (talk) 16:58, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
I continue to think that the section on the lady slipper's orchid is emotive, evangelising, and doesn't actually contribute to the article. However, life is too short to get involved in an edit war on the issue. --Langcliffe (talk) 18:09, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
