1) (The former HMS Esther) She was the sole Revenue vessel during the 1920s.
2) In 1947 HM Customs and Excise acquired the former HMS Benbecula, renamed her, and fitted her out for service with Customs. She took part in many clandestine operations in co-operation with the Investigations Branch of HM Customs and Excise, against smuggling. Until 1953 she was based in Gravesend Reach on the River Thames, and was ocean going. She was then based in Southampton Water. The first ever outside live TV broadcast from a ship was made from her during the 1950 GATT conference in Torquay.

'To give a little context vis-á-vis the Royal Navy, HM Customs and Excise hold a charter from Charles II which gives them greater powers than the Royal Navy in home waters; and greater powers than the police on shore.
Furthermore officers aboard Revenue vessels hold commissions from the Monarch as do Royal Navy officers.'
