Alfred Mylne

[edit]

please watch: http://mylne.com. It seems Alfred Mylne was involved twice with HMY Britannia :

  1. 1893: on the drawing board for the original lines of Britannia during his apprenticeship at George Lennox Watson's (this is plausible because this apprenticeship is verifiable in several publications)
  2. 1930: as someone who knew Britannia to convert her rig to the Universal Rule J-Class

Mylne's archives does not hold plans dating before 1896, so it is improbable that Mylne's signature on Britannia's plans can be verified. We may however revert the article version to include Mylne's work. signed:Nuttyrave (talk) 18:18, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Nuttyrave. Certainly Alfred Mylne was an draughtsman in the firm of George Lennox Watson and, along with James Rennie Barnett, drafted many plans, but the edit suggesting he was somehow the 'brains' behind the Britannia design is without foundation. The http://www.mylne.com website cited belongs to the new owners of the Mylne brand, the same party making the reverted amendment, so I'm not sure if it is authoritative.

Merger

[edit]

A merger of the two articles HMY Britannia (Royal Cutter Yacht) and K1 Britannia has been proposed in view of the redundancy and similarity of the articles while they both feature in the Royal Yachts template. For such a small article, the historic ship should be placed first and the replica second in the same article. Please make your suggestions here. signed:Donan Raven (talk) 18:11, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would be inclined to keep the articles separate, the History and heritage section of K1 Brittania could be shortened with a link to HMY Britannia (Royal Cutter Yacht), but they are different boats and the replica will doubtless gain its own history over time, I think it would also be confusing to add what is already a substantial article on the replica to the original article. I was thinking that both articles could be cleaned up and treated separately (and hold strictly separate content, using only wikilinks where appropriate, as has been done with the Bluenose II for instance), but I would tend to think that since they are essentially the same "base", the article could gain significantly more breadth from incorporating both boats (chronologically, and using two technical infoboxes), especially as there is a genuine intention of adding props from the original boat back on the replica. Tell me what you think. signed:Donan Raven (talk) 23:01, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest keeping the articles separate although the history and heritage section of K1 Britannia could be shortened and linked to the original HMY Britannia. The article in general needs some condensing. The replica is obviously a different boat and taking a much different path than the original (charity usage, maritime education, etc...) and it wouldn't make sense to combine them. --Don Novello 08:47, 4 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Donnovello617 (talkcontribs)

Replica edit war

[edit]

@86.87.84.95:@62.195.51.121:@92.109.1.171:@K1britannia: - please stop counter editing the existing article and discuss your proposal for presenting the 1993/future replica here. The charity/trust/foundation's work is not relevant to *this* article, it is also subject to scrutiny because it involves both charity work and a luxury yacht at the same time. signed:Donan Raven (talk, contribs) 14:02, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
