Handguards vs. Barrel Shrouds
[edit]That picture is awfully similar to the one in the Barrel shroud article. Of course, I'm of the opinion that handguards are not "barrel shrouds". --UnneededAplomb (talk) 07:28, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]In my opinion these are too similar topics, and seem redundant. I can not see the big difference between a handguard and barrel shroud; they are essentially the same thing. Both are meant to give the shooter a place to grip and prevent them from getting burned. If anything, a barrel shroud can be regarded as a type of handguard that goes the full length of the barrel. The article claims that the distinction is that "a handguard is a type of (often only half-length) barrel shrouding". Has the term lost its meaning? "Full length handguards" are sold nowadays which covers the full length of the barrel (or more if you will). For example a 460 mm (18 in) handguard on a 410 mm (16 in) barrel.
I propose to merge barrel shroud into a subsection of the handguard article. Sauer202 (talk) 00:40, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- I agree that they are worth merging, but suggest the other direction, Barrel shroud having the broader definition, and also being (better) referenced. Klbrain (talk) 19:29, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- Merger complete. Klbrain (talk) 09:04, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
