Bodily energy?[edit]

I was going to change the "bodily energy" entry to "Heat, bodily energy measured in kilojoules or kilocalories (informally calories)" but then it struck me that I'd never heard "bodily energy" referred to as "heat". I'm inclined to simply delete the entry. Any other suggestions? Vaughan Pratt (talk) 16:57, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Primary topic[edit]

User:Chjoaygame see WP:DABNOT a little additional information - dabs are solely for navigation, I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve by bettering the article's own wording? Heat is energy in transfer to or from a thermodynamic system by mechanisms other than thermodynamic work or transfer of matter.

  • [1] Heat in thermodynamics is energy in transfer to or from a system by mechanisms other than thermodynamic work or transfer of matter.
    • the lead of the article is really OK without rewording it to either duplicate "thermodynamic" three times (below), or in this case to rearrange the to preface it with "in thermodynamics", which loses the "thermodynamic system" which is a crucial aspect. As I said in edit summary, for WP:PRIMARYTOPICs we assume readers have navigated to the dab via the primary topic, so we do not expect users to want or care about it which is why it is listed above all entries. Typically just a short version of the article.
  • [2] Heat as a technical term in thermodynamics is energy in transfer to or from a thermodynamic system by mechanisms other than thermodynamic work or transfer of matter.
    • See WP:REFERS why is a term for is discouraged
  • [3] Heat as a technical term in thermodynamics refers to energy in transfer between systems by mechanisms other than thermodynamic work or transfer of matter.

A lot of these reformulations of the article will need commas and don't read as well as the original. Widefox; talk 23:24, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
