Uncommonly-used tools

[edit]

These are in the "commonly used tools" list but I don't think they're commonly used. I'm not going to delete them myself because of potential Wikipedia:Conflict of interest reasons. Could someone else please delete them?

  • Chm maker: Help authoring tool for creating help files in CHM format.
  • Helphee: Hosted web-based help authoring and publishing tool. Nothing to download, install or configure. Site yet not launched
  • Republicorp XDK: An XML, HTML, and Help toolkit based on Microsoft Word.
  • digipedia from the makers of Sevensteps.
  • Help Generator: Help generator and authoring tool for Visual Basic, Microsoft Access and Visual Studio 2003 / 2005. For making HTML Help, web-based help and user documentation in Word.
  • WinCHM: HTML help authoring tool.

Thanks. Kla'quot 01:42, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Probably could be pruned more - ideally would like to have a verifiable citation stating which tools people use the most. Maybe we can use an STC or WritersUA survey? --Aguerriero (talk) 03:20, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great. Using the surveys is an excellent idea. Kla'quot 03:52, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's almost impossible to get that kind of information. The HATs listed on the HAT-Matrix are probably among the most popular. Char 21:55, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commonly-used tools for Wiki Users?

[edit]

Can someone list authoring tools that enable users to publish wiki online help? I can produce a lot of web help using numerous products, but are there any products that produce wiki syntax and that work with wiki platform? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aakridge (talkcontribs) 00:33, 13 February 2007 (UTC). Unfortunately, there aren't any. However, MadCap Flare now has a Feedback Server, which may include what you're looking for, and Author-it has a web-based component, where edits are made through a browser. Remove links?

[edit]

There was a comment in the code that there shouldn't be any links to any commerical software. I was going to remove the ones that are there, but I wasn't sure if I should. (However, either all HATs should have links, or none should.) Char 21:58, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed them and pruned the list to basically what is listed in the HAT matrix. I also took out the external links to the HAT matrix and other sites because they contain ads or are selling products and are therefore inappropriate. If anyone has a link to a non-commercial informational site about HATs we should add it. --Spike Wilbury talk 15:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
