Pokémon Online listed at Redirects for discussion[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Pokémon Online. Since you had some involvement with the Pokémon Online redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Steel1943 (talk) 03:56, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Wesco 482 block[edit]

I believe a more explicit explanation of this block would be helpful to reviewing admins, such as whether the block was related to all the non-free content notices on his page, or unsourced edits, combination of the two, or whatever. Beeblebrox (talk) 01:41, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Ok, somebody came along and provided a link to the ANI discussion. As there was no link to it in either the log or the block notice it was a bit obscure, but I have now declined their request. Beeblebrox (talk) 09:48, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
@Beeblebrox: Sorry about that. I had typed out an addendum on my office laptop to the block template providing more explanation, but seeing that the edit never appeared I'm guessing it's still sitting there waiting for me to click Save. Thanks for handling the unblock request. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 12:20, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins[edit]

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers[edit]

Hi Spike Wilbury.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help[edit]

Hi Spike Wilbury,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Scale of justice 2.svg Hello, Spike Wilbury. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

88th Discord Division[edit]

Bleh. I really don't feel like messing with it right now, but gimme the link and a noping to the author and image and I'll get around to it. I've done a few half assed things in my time, but it's a bit too half assed to just comment on how this should be un-mucked by someone else and leave it. TimothyJosephWood 14:44, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

I'm doing some leg work. I performed a reverse image search on the image and didn't find anything, so we will have to assume he made it. It's derivative of a PD logo, so he's fine licensing it as cc-by-sa 4.0. I'm looking into his other edits as well; I'll follow up soon. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 15:01, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Just as well. But if it requires an internationally banned template (honestly I've never seen that one before), then it needs it. It's almost certainly "original", but it's equally certainly derivative, so all the legalese caveats need to come with it. TimothyJosephWood 15:03, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
I've started a conversation at Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#Reuse_of_Nazi_symbolism. Thanks for your care and attention to this matter. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 15:13, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Anas el-Fiqqi ‎[edit]

Hello Spike Wilbury,

I have recently updated a page reg. Anas El Fiqqi and the content I added was deleted. How can I ensure that my updates are not deleted? I can guarantee it is all accurate information and will be sure to include references when updating it.

Thanks, Hana El Fekky — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 09:23, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Information about living or recently deceased people must cited reliable sources. None of the content you added was sourced. Please see the note I left on your talk page and WP:BLP for more information. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 10:56, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

LK's lead edits[edit]

I see you've argued with LK at Talk:Ringo_Starr#.22Musician.22 about his reductive lead changes; I think it's getting ridiculous. His behavior at Kind of Blue has forced me to open an RfC there, and edits like these are just obsessive :/ Dan56 (talk) 19:10, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi Dan56, I'm pondering the best course of action here. I'm positive this user believes they are improving articles (and in some places there probably are excessive lists of "occupations" next to people's names) but their behavior grows odd when they encounter disagreement. He has met quite a bit of resistance at Ringo Starr and George Harrison. I'll be interested to see if he continues reverting. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 20:13, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Yep, odd indeed. And defensive. Dan56 (talk) 21:10, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Yea, he simply doesn't give a shit. Dan56 (talk) 01:32, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
He's responded in no way to the RfC, although he oddly added "bio" to the RfC tag ([1]), when it's an album article. Strange. Dan56 (talk) 01:55, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
He's under no obligation to respond to the RfC, unless of course he resumes edit warring. If he's opening discussions and generally respecting the outcome of those discussions there's not much to be done other than treating it as any other disagreement. If he gets into further edit warring behavior, though, I would consider opening an administrative noticeboard thread about his behavior to get other editor input. To be clear, I would not take any administrative action here since I have been involved in some of the content disagreements, nor do I think the situation has risen to that level. Lawrencekhoo, notifying you as a courtesy that you are being discussed here. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 11:33, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
