Talk:Heterophone

This is all very confusing. At homonym, and also wiktionary:heterophone, "heterophone" is said to mean the same as "heteronym", namely a word with the same spelling as another but a different pronunciation (and meaning). This article says something quite different - that heterophones are words with similar pronunciations, and according to the example, possibly quite different spellings. Which is correct? Or do different people using the same word to mean different things? That wouldn't surprise me since the nomenclature of these homonym subtypes seems rife with such confusion. Other languages

Are heterophones only present in English? Most languages have much more consistent pronunciation rules. That would be good information to include in the article. Benandorsqueaks 22:26, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
