User talk:Dan Hoey
I'm Dan Hoey, a mathematician, programmer, computer science researcher, science fiction fan, and wise guy. Most of my Wikipedia contributions in 2005-06 were to Combinatorial game theory, but I have decided to be a CGT researcher and recuse myself.
This is my talk page. You can talk to me here, but if I don't respond, you might e-mail to me at [1]. My work e-mail address isn't hard to find if you look around. Try to say something in the subject that doesn't sound like spam--I know it's hard to beat the Turing test in forty characters, but you can do it if you try.

What time is it
[edit]I just want to track "now" against "then". I tried to prefer UTC+5, but I think it is being spotty about taking effect. --Dan Hoey 16:47, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Hello
[edit]Just saying hello if you are the Dan Hoey of 1975-76 if you know what I mean. `'mikka 07:23, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, I was Dan Hoey then, but younger. New Haven or Washington? I forget exactly when I moved, and I'm afraid I don't recognize your photo.--Dan Hoey 01:42, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- Most probably you dont know me. I was one of the early CG adopters in the Evil Empire. No particularly glorious achievements, but until mid-80s I knew everything happening in the CG field, including assistant midwives and pets of girfriends of second cousins four times removed. In fact, my bibliography list was even larger than geombib, if you know what it is. `'mikka 20:15, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I get it. It was New Haven, and those were publication dates, and I guess I don't know you, but you know of me. Yep, assistant midwife to CG, that's me. By the way, your user page link to EDA goes somewhere you probably didn't intend. --Dan Hoey 01:58, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Beware of birthday greetings
[edit]I prefer to edit anonymously, so I post little personal data. :-)
Yep, I figured anyone clever enough to change a system message would catch the hint. I regularly edit mathematics pages here lately, for my amusement and to help out. Have you opted to allow sending email to you through Wikipedia (on your preferences page)? If so, we can continue this more privately. --KSmrqT 19:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Mathematics CotW
[edit]Hey Dan, I am writing you to let you know that the Mathematics Collaboration of the week(soon to "of the month") is getting an overhaul of sorts and I would encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, i.e. nominate an article, contribute to an article, or sign up to be part of the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks--Cronholm144 20:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Combinatorial game theory
[edit]I wonder if you could answer the question I posted at Talk:combinatorial game theory. ---- CharlesGillingham (talk) 11:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Parasitic numbers
[edit]I remember that you did some work on parasitic numbers a while ago. That article is undergoing a lot of revision right now, and I thought you might have something to contribute. Also, if you still have the article you wrote up with the state machines that generate parasitic numbers, can you please refer me to it?
Thanks. —Dominus (talk) 19:37, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
