Ease of understanding
[edit]Much of this article is confusing to the layperson, such as the sections "Comparisons to lapping" and "Comparisons to grinding". These sections introduce language (superfinishing, polishing) that has an unclear relationship to lapping, grinding, and honing. Does superfinishing mean honing? Does polishing mean lapping? This can be guessed from context, but then we're told, "In many cases, the terms 'honing' and 'superfinishing' can be used interchangeably. Superfinishing is generally used more broadly, and may also be used to describe mass finishing, polishing, or lapping processes." Now superfinishing can mean something it was just contrasted with, and the list implies that polishing and lapping are different. If you have come to this page to help resolve some of this language (as I did) this is completely opaque. I hope someone with the knowledge considers rewriting these sections in a more accessible manner. 98.203.249.92 (talk) 00:15, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed the "comparison to lapping" section as the whole thing about being the same as superfinishing is incorrect. Superfinishing is a different process. Wizard191 (talk) 13:05, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- "comparisons to grinding" is about superfinishing rather than honing. Is this a misplaced paragraph from the superfinishing article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wilhkar (talk • contribs) 21:21, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- I forgot to move that over when I was reworking the superfinishing article. I've moved it now. Wizard191 (talk) 02:23, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Plateau Section
[edit]This reads like an advertisment for a product to me, anyone else feel the same way? Cameron McCormack (talk) 13:45, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- Plateau honing is important (very important for engine cylinders, on account of lubrication behaviour), as are the "ball on a spring" tools that achieve it. Flex-hone's the only brand I've heard of, maybe there are others, maybe it can be copy-edited. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:52, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Link Request
[edit]I think there needs to be a link to this article from the ID Grinding content section of the Cylindrical Grinder article. — comment added by Will Prater (talk • contribs) 15:53, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
