Woodrow Wilson

[edit]

I know that many people casually call the school "Wilson High School," dropping the "Woodrow." But there is no dispute that the school's actual name is "Woodrow Wilson High School." Shouldn't the article reflect this? The article doesn't even reference the eponymous president once! One argument for keeping the Woodrow off is that most of Portland's public high schools seem to have wiki articles that truncate their names to show only the last name of the president after which they were named. To me, this just means that they all ought to be changed, and they ought to reference the person after whom they are named. BlackberryLaw 01:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that the article now mentions the school's namesake, but I think this is missing the point - the school's name is Woodrow Wilson High School, and as such, I am changing the article's title and content to reflect this. I will try soon to do the same for the rest of Portland's high schools. BlackberryLaw 13:14, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is an old conversation, but is it *truly* named 'Woodrow Wilson', or just 'Wilson'? The sources I've found indicate the latter. Before any more changes, we should find a very trustworthy source. (see also: WP:RS and WP:V) tedder (talk) 06:49, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed the above links for possible use in the article. The two from the Tribune are off topic, being about policies of the school district, not the school, and even if they weren't, the stuff they are talking about would not be encyclopedic content as it is of no importance to anyone outside the school's community. The USNWR link could be used to update the school's USNWR rank (to unranked), but it's not a reliable source for anything else. And I have no clue what you think should be done with the last link, but the principal being out of the office is certainly not an encyclopedic topic. I suspect students may want to use this to discuss rumors, but that will not be happening. Please familiarize yourselves with our policy on writing about living people prior to commenting on the last link. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 20:57, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
