What about the discussion of immigration to Palestine? I'm referring to immigrating to the Palestinian territories, as well as the debate over Palestinians immigrating to Israel. What this entry also needs is a "how to," perhaps a link to Israeli immigration information, or a step-by-step summary of the process. Mr100percent

5th Aliyah[edit]

Goodoldpolonius2: Thought the anon had a bit of a point in one of his edits, the other being worthless. I think the comment that Jewish nationalism was not a cause (sometimes even a proximate cause) of Arab riots a bit odd. If the one hadn't existed the other probably wouldn't have happened - and I don't think I am saying anything which is not accepted by practically all sources. The violence, even terrorist violence was not one-sided - viz the market bombings of the late 30s. One could go on, but making this short paragraph into an ideally balanced history of the period, rather than concentrating on the topic of immigration, is impossible and undesirable, and I think more bland and neutral language, even if it might not strike the perfect balance of rights and wrongs is a good idea when these are not the main topic.--John Z 05:55, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

John Z - I actually agree with you on this, and if my changes did not reflect this I think I was reacting more strongly to the anon's edits, and preserving the sense of the text already there, rather than trying to reflect a POV. I think the balance you put in makes perfect sense, especially with regard to the late 30s, when nationalism was high on both sides and the Irgun was bombing civilian targets. I have more doubts about the mutuality of the 1920s riots, especially the early 20s, but I think your edits reflect that. --Goodoldpolonius2 06:05, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Arab Immigration[edit]

Why there is no mention of arab immagration to Palestine? Here is two arctiles to start with. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=2139 http://www.meforum.org/article/522 If could someone write a paragraph that would be nice.

As the article is written right now, the title should be changed to "Jewish Immigration to Palestine and Israel Since the Rise of Zionism" or something of the sort, as indicated by the introduction. It does not include non-Jewish immigration and it does not include immigration in ancient times (Exodus?).
Jewish immigration may warrant an article of its own, though it may be desirable to change the article to include non-Jewish immigration as well.
At any rate, the references suggested by the anonymous above are certainly not going to be the basis for a section on non-Jewish immigration - they're on a highly controversial theory that is backed by speculation rather than data, and may well be politically motivated. While this opinion may be worth mentioning (if the article is to include non-Jewish immigration), the official British Mandatory statistics on non-Jewish immigration and estimates of illegal non-Jewish immigration state them as rather low.--Doron 19:38, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
