Under what department?[edit]

What is the IMF. An Independent Agency or a Black Ops Division of the CIA? Leader Vladimir 1 June 2006

In the original 1960s version the opening tape concluded with the phrase (paraphrased) "if you fail, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your existence." Assuming the IMF is an American-operated agency (very likely) that would rule out the CIA. The CIA is not run by a Cabinet-level official. The Voice said the Secretary would disavow their actions not their existence. Actual quote fromt the series: "As always, should you or any member of your IM Force be caught or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Jim." -- The Voice (Bob Johnson). Another note: I reject the movies not only for what they did to Jim Phelps but what they did to the who premise. That's problem with movies based on TV series they are never true to the series. Name (Mission/Missions)[edit]

What's said in the films is irrelevant -- if they changed it for the movies, then that's a footnote, at best. It was originated on the TV series as Missions, and that's what must be used. - This is pretty heavy POV. The films are there, whether they are liked by fans of the original series or not. I've adjusted the lede to reflect this. I don't really have a horse in this race, so I won't get into an edit war. I simply hope that the goal of NPOV wins out over all over prejudicial ideals in the end.
