Record holder[edit]

According to the BBC documentary on this, Charles Burnet III set the initial world record on one day and then a British driver broke that record in the same steam car. This seems to be confirmed also by the team website, although some complications arise re records set over a measured kilometre vs those set over a measured mile. Can someone who knows more about this change this entry from referring to Charles Burnet III as the current record holder if this is the case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.140.1 (talk) 04:27, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As you say, it gets complicated. Because the two runs were over different distances, they are technically two separate records. Which do you consider to be "the" speed record? Traditionally, it has been over 1 mile so Burnet could be considered "correct". I suspect Guinness would take this viewpoint but I may be wrong. --Roly (talk) 20:54, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
