The John Crittendens

As there are many members of the Crittenden family who have played a part in the military history of the United States, there seemed to be some confusion on this disambig page regarding the relationships of the various persons of the name John Crittenden.

I have corrected the page with sources and explain further here:

• John Crittenden, Sr. was the father of
  • John J. Crittenden who was the father of
    • Thomas Leonidas Crittenden who was the father of
      • John J. Crittenden (soldier) (soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Bighorn) [1]

Arx, the guidelines are there to keep the articles clear - imagine if the many thousands of us just put in whatever we thought and that was accepted! This is an encyclopedia, after all and this is a disambiguation page to find Wikipedia articles, not external articles. The talk page is indeed the right place to leave references, though I think it best that if he is notable, he is given an article on Wikipedia. I have copied below the response I left on your talk page when you sent me a message about this, so people are clear. It takes a lot of searching to find this on WP:MOSDAB.

I found this on WP:MOSDAB: Never include external links, either as entries or in descriptions. Disambiguation pages disambiguate Wikipedia articles, not the World-Wide Web. To note URLs that might be helpful in the future, include them as or on a talk page.

If you feel this man was important, please add the link as described above (so it won't show on screen, but only to those who are editing it) rather than as a standard reference. Some editors (I'm not really among them) have also been concerned that this website has been added to a huge number of articles, and are concerned that this is advertising - only because of the huge number that have suddenly popped up. They are therefore often deleting the information. If you think he is notable and deserves an article, it might be worth you writing one, or at least a stub that can be expanded. Red links are routinely removed from disambiguation pages because people mistakenly think they are not permitted on these pages.

I hope this clears things up a little; I found his article on the website interesting, so he sounds worth you starting an article on.
