Many thanks for taking this on. Chiswick Chap (talk) 04:54, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why is the photo in the infobox fair use? Since it was published before 1923, you can upload it freely on English Wikipedia at least.
I've put PD-1923 on it. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:10, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Still seems to have a fair use description template, though, should be repaced with a regular one. FunkMonk (talk) 10:12, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done.
  • "was a geologist and mining engineer from Darlington" Mention country. Also in Life and career.
Done.
  • I think the caption of the infobox image is a bit excessive, it is almost a summary of the article. If nothing can be said about the photo itself, date, place, etc.
Done.
  • "of Middlesbrough" Could be linked.
Done.
  • Vaughan should be presented and linked outside the intro too.
Done.
  • "Another son J.W. Marley" Why is he not mentioned in the infobox?
Done.
  • "His nephew, Thomas William Marley was chairman of the North Brancepeth Coal company." Needs source.
Added.
Done.
  • "Cleveland Ironstone Formation" should be linked at first mention.
Done.
  • Two Ammonite zones" Most readers won't know what this means, you could mention index fossils.
Glossed.
  • "The Northern Echo" Present. What is it?
Glossed, italics.
Linked.
  • I think the short Legend section could be merged into History and geology (very short paragraphs should not have their own sections), but no big deal.
But perhaps it is helpful to call out the difference between "Legend" and "Commercial reality", as the legend is by far the more famous.
  • "Bolckow Vaughan had already" Which is who?
Introduced and linked.
  • "described his discovery like this:" Seems a bit informal. "As follows"?
Done.
  • "Marley was not exaggerating." Seems a bit too hyperbolic for an encyclopaedia.
Fixed.
Thanks very much for the review! Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:18, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
