Since people often skip the project page, here are my assessment notes:

  • This page has no biographical data, except for the briefest of info in the lead sentence.
  • It also has no info box, and uses an image of a book cover (with no real fair Use to support it) as the picture of the author.
  • The inline citations are not properly formatted, and are basically just links to Rechy's own website.
  • It is mostly a list of books by about the author, with small plot summaries. This page reads more like an advertisement for Rechy's books and website than a proper Wiki bio. There is also a long list of redundant external links at the bottom--this needs to be cleaned up.
  • I actually like this author, so might (if I have time) do some work on this page later this weekJeffpw 21:13, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Interesting for me, a fan of John Rechy, and a genealogist, to find that the birth year commonly given in biographies differs substantially from the Texas Birth Index. He was born in 1931, not 1934. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.87.83.154 (talk) 06:10, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Should most certainly not be in the lede. Another, greater post-war talent--and admirer of Rechy--Norman Mailer, stabbed his wife for chrissakes, and that doesn't make it into his lede. I can't imagine who put it into in his lede. 72.229.27.94 (talk) 04:14, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Disagree with tag

With all due respect, the promotional tag on this article is puzzling to me. Aside from two things in the "awards" section which have already been labeled "citation needed" this doesn't read as promotional at all. Wishing the editor who added that tag would elaborate on their reasoning. 2603:8001:2A00:7428:18F2:45CD:793:B1F8 (talk) 19:37, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

I believe it was because of the way the first paragraph was writen. Letslookitup (talk) 01:27, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
