[edit]_ _ Nice work by CatherineMunro cleaning up after me. (I'm much less committed to material inside comments being pretty, but embarrassed by the under-proofreading i committed under the stress of terminal problems.)
_ _ I find excellent the ignoring of middle names and treating nicknames and the formal version equally. My only quibble is in preferring, over "DoB order", "DoD order, or, if alive, DoB order": most people (i.e., in the absence of a severe dotage) retain or enhance their notability until death, but see a drop-off of mentions at that point, followed by a gradual decline. So the most notable people are the oldest living ones, then other living ones, then the most recently dead. I think we'd drive people crazy by putting them in that order, but the reverse of it: most-likely-to-be notable last, lets heavy users get used to jumping to the end of the list & working back up.
_ _ I'm more interested in seeing how people think that works, than in seeing it "win"; that experiment is my intention in reworking CM's fine work in John Taylor.
_ _ Finally, i dropped vital stats that are redundant bcz they appear in the Dab'g suffix of the corresponding article title.

- Thanks, Jerzy! I considered some sort of "notability order", but it seems it would be very subjective and difficult to maintain, especially with many long-deceased figures. Your system may be a better way of approximating notability in an objective way, but is slightly more difficult for readers and future editors to understand. However, the sections are small and organized enough now that it shouldn't be hard for people to find what they're looking for regardless. I don't feel strongly either way -- I'd say let your system stand unless/until someone else questions it or decides to change it. — Catherine\talk 00:16, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
- That just goes to show you how clueless [big wink] you can be and still contribute valuably here. I refer of course to the ludicrous vision of permanence: that should read

- Another hour or two, i figure. And praise be to WP for that! [smile]
--Jerzy•t 18:25, 2005 August 30 (UTC) - (Speaking of clueless, i just reviewed before saving, and realized that i am the only one clueless enuf to think anyone might seriously consider nobility order. [blush]

Too Many
[edit]Aren't there a few too many John Taylor's too list them all? I think perhaps this list needs to have some of the people without articles removed.

- The purpose of this page is not to list anybody with that name. People listed here are generally already included elsewhere. If we remove them here, it will be even more complicated to figure out of which new links on Special:Whatlinkshere/John Taylor. -- User:Docu
- I agree that there are a lot of names, so I added the {{disambig-cleanup}} template to it. Would it be appropriate to create sub-disambiguation pages? Or perhaps a list that is collapse-able by section? Feel free anyone who wants to take the cleanup template off again. B Fizz (talk) 21:51, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Help!!
[edit]Some "numbered" person has gone and replaced the large disambig page with an article on a single person, perhaps himself, I dunno. Needs a revert, I can't do it, only have time to raise the alarm. ;Bear 18:10, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've fixed it (and haven't moved the anon's added text elsewhere as it's a copyvio). I've also left a note on the anon's talk page, though the single contrib isn't promising for the contributor to actually see my message. Ah well. -- Jonel | Speak 00:06, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- This is the same copyvio I reverted from User:Harcle the other day. — Catherine\talk 01:25, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Rt Rev John Taylor, sometime Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway
[edit]Whilst working on links on the current Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway - Most Rev Idris Jones, I have come to a potential link to his predecessor - John Taylor (yes another one). Not sure whether there should a live link or not. At present it stops at this page, however potential this can be pulled back to the page for Idris Jones.
Thoughts please -- Pencefn 18:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- For the time being I have removed this John Taylor from the list

[edit]Page was flagged for disambiguation clean-up. I've made the following changes and have re-added the disambiguation clean-up tag since it still needs more clean-up; the page still has red links and could use further categorisation.
- Removed red link to John Taylor (Oxford). Unable to find anything of note about him on the web to create a stub page for him. His name is already included on List of Vice-Chancellors of the University of Oxford.
- Removed red link to John Taylor (blues), singer/guitarist, leader of Johnny Widebars & The Shovelheads, as their notability is questionable and I am unable to find references to them from reliable sources
- Removed reference to "John Taylor (Founder of Total Siding LLC) (1985-present)" as their notability is questionable
- Created stubs for: John Taylor, Baron Taylor of Holbeach, John Taylor (Canadian politician), John Taylor (Civil Engineer), John Taylor (captain), John Taylor (paper manufacturer) and John Bigelow Taylor
- There were also two red-links for a filmaker: John Taylor documentary film-maker) (1914–1992) and John Taylor (filmmaker) (1921–1982?), British documentary filmmaker.
- I have a feeling this is the same person, because there is definitely a documentary filmmaker who lived from 1914-1992 and who was also from London
- I have created stub page titled John Taylor (documentary filmmaker) for this person.

Edits March 27 2008
[edit]- Created page for John Taylor (hymn writer)
- Removed reference to Apaloosa horse breeder since I am unable to find information from verifiable sources
- Also reorganised some of the categories:
- Added "Arts" heading and moved some of the names from Businessmen and Tradesmen to that category.
- Created "Music" subheading to "Arts" and added names from "Musicians" heading
- Created "Notorious figures" heading
- I have also listed names in these new categories alphabetically by page title, versus birthdate and so I also removed embedded comment: "Names in each group are in roughly chronological order by date of death, or if living, by birthdate."
- Placed categories in alphabetical order by heading
- Created dab John Taylor (given name) and moved entries there
- Created "See Also" heading and moved links to Taylor and John Taylor (given name) to that section
There are still some read links but I don't think the list could be broken down much more so I didn't bother reflagging for clean-up. I may however take another stab at creating some more stubs for those red links. Marchije (talk) 02:00, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
