An open standard?

[edit]

Why it's truly open? I see only members of Konnex can get the specification, or through the CENTELEC.

That's because it's not protected. If you want you cán look into it. You just need to pay to see it. I thought that still means it is open, just not free. R U Bn @ e-builds 17:50, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Open doesn't mean the specification is free. The IEC and IEEE have thousands of open standards, but the specifications also cost a lot of money to get. Certification is even more expensive. The point of an open standard is to encourage interoperability between competing manufacturer's products. Rhombus 20:49, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the same sense that the MS Windows API is an "open" standard. Anyone can look at it, and anyone can develop compliant software, which has encouraged a wide selection of interoperable products from competing sources.

KNX Specifications can be downloaded for free at their MyKNX online shop. Anyone can develop a KNX device from scratch using the specifications, only if you want to use the KNX logo that ensures interoperability, then you need to be a KNX Member of the KNX Association. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.11.200.159 (talk) 14:59, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But if anyone want's to /use/ your KNX device, it has to be in the KNX database, to be recognized by the KNX control software.

'Higher capacitance requires proportionally shorter cable length'

According to the distributed element model, the capacitances are parallel to each other, thus the longer the cable the bigger the capacitance of it. Actually it makes sense even from the very definition of capacitance that conductors with bigger parallel surfaces have bigger capacitances. --Polarka (talk) 19:00, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

– This is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the subject and has global usage, as opposed to the local radio station. The current KNX page should be moved to KNX (disambiguation). PhotographyEdits (talk) 12:15, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
