Change of President

Hello, I work for Kaplan University and we're planning to make a minor change to this page to update who the President of Kaplan University is. Please see this link (http://www.kaplanuniversity.edu/about/leadership/betty-vandenbosch.aspx) showing Betty Vandenbosch has taken the position. I will make this change tomorrow as it is a purely factual change. Thank you. Mayluardo (talk) 14:41, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Update Schools and Campuses

Hi - I work for Kaplan University and we would like to make a minor change to the Academics section. Some school names have been changed and need to be updated. Please see this link (http://www.kaplanuniversity.edu/campus-online-degree-programs/) for a full list of schools. The Quick Facts section also requires updates to reflect the current number of Campuses. Please visit this link (http://www.kaplanuniversity.edu/student-experience/campus-learning.aspx) for a full list of campuses. These changes will be made tomorrow as they are purely factual changes. Thank you. Mayluardo (talk) 16:37, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Factual Edits

Hi - I work for Kaplan University and we would like to make minor edits in the sections below. Please see revised copy and citations below:

Quick Facts

Revised Copy: 37,000 online and campus-based students

Citation: http://www.ghco.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=62487&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2164889

Reason for Edit: Factual edit to reflect current number of students.

Intro

Revised Copy: Kaplan University is predominantly a distance learning institution of higher education that is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Kaplan University was named in honor of Stanley H. Kaplan,[5] who founded Kaplan Test Prep.[6]

Reason for Edit: Factual edit to remove mention of NCA. Kaplan University is no longer a member of the NCA

Revised Copy: Kaplan University elected to participate in U.S. News & World Report rankings for Best Online Bachelor programs in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Submissions were evaluated, ranked and published in January of the following year. Kaplan University’s online bachelor’s program ranked #56 in 2014, #76 in 2015, and #137 in 2016.

Kaplan University also elected to participate in 2013 in the best online nursing program. Kaplan’s School of Nursing elected not to participate in subsequent years.

Citations: (http://newsroom.kaplan.edu/press-release/kaplan-higher-education-group/second-consecutive-year-kaplan-university-ranks-among-be)

Reason for Edit: Factual edit to include all U.S. News & World Report rankings.

Revised Copy: Remove 2015 Kaplan College allegations section: In 2015, Kaplan settled with federal Officials regarding allegations that it hired instructors who were not qualified. Approximately 300 former students of Kaplan will receive tuition refunds as part of the settlement.[11][12]

Citation: (http://woai.iheart.com/articles/woai-local-news-sponsored-by-five-119078/forprofit-college-settles-allegations-it-hired-13119463/) (https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdtx/pr/profit-college-kaplan-refund-federal-financial-aid-under-settlement-united-states)

Reason for Edit: Proposing the removal of this paragraph as this case and settlement did not involve Kaplan University or any its students. This Wikipedia page is about Kaplan Universtiy, which has never had a campus in Texas.

History

Revised Copy: Kaplan University’s School of Nursing was granted additional programmatic accreditations Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in June 2016, including for its doctoral and master’s programs.

Citation: (http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160616006171/en/Kaplan-University%E2%80%99s-School-Nursing-MSN-Nurse-Practitioner-Program) (http://dailynurse.com/msn-nurse-practitioner-program-doctor-nursing-practice-program-kaplan-university-earn-national-accreditation/)

Reason for Edit: Factual edit to represent most current accreditation for School of Nursing.

Revised Copy: In addition, other schools have earned programmatic accreditation. For example, Kaplan University’s School of Business was granted accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) in 2013.

Citation: (http://newsroom.kaplan.edu/press-release/kaplan-higher-education-group/kaplan-universitys-school-business-granted-accreditation)

Reason for Edit: Factual edit to include additional accreditation.

Revised Copy: Concord Law School was established in 1998 and was the first fully online law school in the United States.

Citation: (http://www.concordlawschool.edu/Accreditation.aspx)

Reason for Edit: Factual edit.

Offerings and Enrollment

Revised Copy: The University, which has its main campus in Davenport, Iowa, and its headquarters in Chicago, is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. Kaplan University serves approximately 37,000 online and campus-based students. The University has 14 campuses in Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, Maryland, Maine, Missouri and Wisconsin, and a Kaplan University Learning Center in Maryland.

Reason for Edit: Factual edit. This section is outdated. The numbers are not current and Kaplan University also offers doctoral degrees in nursing and law.

If there are no objections, these edits will be made on Monday, July 11, 2016. Thank you. Mayluardo (talk) 16:44, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Edits to Multiple Sections

Hello - I work for Kaplan University and we would like to continue making edits/updating the page. Please see proposed copy and citations below.

Alleged Misrepresentations

Revised Copy: [Remove the following copy] The federal Education Department released data in August 2010 demonstrating that only 28% of former Kaplan students were paying anything off the principal of their student loans. The remainder were paying only interest on their loans, were behind in payments, or in default. For comparison, the federal data show that 56% of students from non-profit colleges in the United States are paying off principal from their loans, thus at twice the rate of Kaplan students.

Citation: Not needed. Statement is not factual.

Reason for Edit: This paragraph is not about misrepresentations. The header falsely implies that Kaplan or Kaplan University “misrepresented” information about repayment rates which is not factual.

Alleged Improper Recruiting

Additional Copy: Following through on that promise, Kaplan introduced the Kaplan Commitment in 2010 that provides incoming students with an opportunity to enroll in classes without first making a significant financial commitment so they may determine if the coursework meets their educational needs. Since the programs introduction in 2010, more than 200,000 students have enrolled under the Kaplan Commitment.

Citation: Kaplan University Academic Report—The Year in Review, 2014-2015. Page 12 http://www.kaplanuniversity.edu/about/annual-report.aspx

Reason for Edit: the citation calls out Kaplan’s promise to eliminate such conduct from Kaplan. One of the steps it took to do so was to introduce the Kaplan Commitment, which should be noted.

Agreement with California Community Colleges

Revised Copy: [Remove entire section] In 2009 a two-year memorandum of understanding was signed between Jack Scott, the chancellor of the California Community Colleges System, and Gregory Marino, President of the Kaplan University Group. Under this agreement, students who need a course to meet their associate degree requirements would be able to take it at Kaplan. However, they would have to pay Kaplan's tuition, which is $646 for a three-credit class, compared with $78 per unit at the community colleges. The agreement, which was never enacted, was controversial because it was signed without any input from community college educators.

Citation: http://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca11/13-13672/13-13672-2015-03-11.html

Reason for Edit: This was over 7 years ago and an agreement that was not entered into. Also, the cited source underscores the rationale for the MOU which is important context. California’s legislature had imposed dramatic cuts to its community college system that was shutting our students who had a class or two left to complete their degree.

If there are no objections, these edits will go live Friday, 8/5/16. Mayluardo (talk) 20:22, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
