merge suggestion

[edit]

I don't agree on the merge. The katarchic astrology entry is in basic disagreement with the definition given here of katarche, and that is that katarche is the basis of all Western and Vedic horary astrology, but unfortunately, Mr. Brennan prefers a relatively new position about this which I do not personally agree with. No one has proved that the horary references in Dorotheus are specious; in fact, the later citations of these portions of Dorotheus by fourth-century astrologers (obviously before the Arabs) seems to refute the idea. In any case, it remains to be seen. However, I think there should be a reference to the practice of katarche apart from astrology, in any case. NaySay 17:06, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pingree edited both Dorotheus and Hephaistio and his statements over the past decade are pretty explicit that the sparse horary references in the Arabic version of Dorotheus are interpolations. So it is inaccurate to say that this is a relatively new position, or that no one has proven that they are interpolations. What else do you need? --Chris Brennan (talk) 07:16, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
