Hey Guys, look at this page: http://www.experiencequeenstown.co.nz/region/southern-lakes-region/kawarau-river/ Does somebody practise copy & paste?

I came across this page also, it appears they have used the text from Wikipedia but not properly attributed it. I've sent them an email requesting to attribute the source and add the licensing terms. You can see from the page history here Wikipedia is the source, see edit from 02:15, 7 April 2005 for example. This is my own work from personal knowledge. XLerate 03:07, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Pronuncuation of Kawarau

[edit]

Rhyming Kawarau with “now” is one Anglicised pronunciation, pronouncing it like “K’worra” is another. The only pronunciation that can really be called correct is the original one where the ending sounds rather like “tow”, not “now”. I'm not saying we should necessarily all use the original pronunciation (I don’t, I rhyme it with “now”) but if you are going to make a point about “K’worra” not being correct then at least compare it to the only way that can be called correct.

What could be said is that the common Anglicised pronunciation in the South Island, or the maybe southern South Island, is to say it like “K’worra” and the common Anglicised pronunciation of the town Kawerau by those in the North Island is to rhyme it with “now”. Different, equally popular in its own region and equally (in)correct. --Pedrocelli (talk) 00:46, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
