Add 233 as Chinese laughing
Should add that in Chinese one would also see 233 as a form of laughing. This is information is on the Chinese page already but lacking on the English page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diper3 (talk • contribs) 17:30, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Acronym, as opposed to an initialism?
Although LOL is sometimes pronounced 'L.O.L.' (ell-oh-ell), more often than not people merely say 'lol', which would suggest to me that it could be considered an acronym. - Novelyst (talk) 09:40, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

"lul" is not the phonetic for LOL; definition of lel is completely incorrect
There isn't a single American English accent in which "lol" is pronounced "lul". "lul" originated as a humorous/satirical truncation of "lulz", which itself was a satirical, trollish way of purposefully mispronouncing lol/lols with a drawling/lazy accent. "lel" is an even further humorous/satirical alteration of "lul".
Both "lul" and "lel" have two meanings. They either are used to express genuine amusement but in a way that is slightly trollish and less cringey/mainstream than saying "lol"; or they are used to indicate a shallow laugh that is dismissive/condescending/sarcastic/satirical/mocking. Neither term refers to "bewilderment" or a "lack of amusement." 73.61.12.208 (talk) 19:33, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

In the first line it states that LOL, or lol, is an initialism, and whilst this was once true it is now an acronym as "lol" itself has become a word that is pronounced phonetically - such as "NASA" being an acronym, and DNA being an initialism. Revkahdel (talk) 13:02, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

Very outdated
Sources are all from the 2000s and doesn't properly cover uses like how "lol" is just a particle representing a casual tone and includes information that is no longer relevant. There's also too much pointless prescriptivism in here. This article doesn't cover modern usage of "lol" at all. useful ref Nixinova T C 06:29, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
The picture of Richard Nixon has no reason to be here
Waste of space, offers nothing to the dicussion. If you absoluetly need to have a picture of someone laughing it should be a clinical type picture, not some random famous person. I think it's distracting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:444:C301:6BB0:0:0:0:EAD3 (talk) 21:30, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

kek
"kek: A term for laughter that originated in online games, possibly either World of Warcraft or Starcraft, the latter in which Korean players would type "kekeke" as onomatopoeia for laughter."
In German language Wikipedia articles de:LOL and de:Kek (Slang) it is explained in more detail how "kek" apparently originated from WOW. Someone please research which version is true and correct accordingly. Kind regards,--Vergänglichkeit (talk) 13:19, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
