Unclear sentence

What is "When working in the field, use the digging method to excavate." supposed to mean? Does it mean simply digging for artifacts with no regard for stratigraphy or other spatial relationships? Kdammers (talk) 18:52, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
