[edit]This page is just a list. How about moving it to List of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga chapters? --Squilibob 02:58, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
why were all the images removed
[edit]whats wrong with keeping the images
- I removed all or a majority of the fair use images on this page as their use was not in line with our Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria policy (likely in that the use is not minimal (3.a.) and it is in a list or a gallery (8.)) or our Wikipedia:Non-free content guideline which states that cover images may only be used for identification with critical commentary on the cover itself, not just identification. Please do not re-add them without discussion. Kotepho 08:32, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
ISBNs
[edit]Generally, ISBN-13s are preferred to ISBN-10s. Shueisha's website takes you to the same page whether you use an ISBN-10 or ISBN-13 (even for the first volumes of this series), so I don't see the problem of using ISBN-13s here myself. Any thoughts? —Dinoguy1000 16:56, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- 13s are preferred after the switch, but we aren't switching over the volumes from before the switch. Generally, we've been using the ISBN that is actually on the volume in question. Doceirias (talk) 18:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, that makes sense. —Dinoguy1000 16:44, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
More work
[edit]I will join this party i will do some overhauling here including converting all the ISBN to ISBN-13 format cheers --KrebMarkt 13:10, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Totally forgot I hadn't finished this up. Got a long weekend, might as well plow through it. Working on the J titles for part 5 now. Thanks for the help and the reminder. Doceirias (talk) 18:55, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yoiks, looks like I broke the code a bit, looking for the bug now. Doceirias (talk) 19:05, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- No idea. It works when I click preview and doesn't when I save. Doceirias (talk) 19:16, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- I can't find anything wrong with the changes I made. Did the page just get too long or something? Guess I'm done working till someone figures it out. Doceirias (talk) 19:33, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Too long :( Separately there is no problem but put all the sections together and the article crumbles. It seems it simply refuse to process the templates due to size issue :(. I have the fellowing message when i try to preview the whole article Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included. I guess we blew up the max number of templates tags permitted in a single article --KrebMarkt 21:11, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Wow. Well, there was a proposal to split each of the seven sections into it's own page, replacing what we're currently linking to as main articles. We were going to finish up the current overhaul first, but I guess priorities have shifted.
- I think two to three splits for now. I pinged Dinoguy1000 maybe he know more about the limit number of templates. Let try to avoid to much dispersion. Splinting in 7 lists would be last resort. --KrebMarkt 21:36, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- I sort of agree; how about splitting off Steel Ball Run and Stone Ocean to their own pages, leaving the original 63 volumes on one page? Those two were published as different series to begin with, so it's a bit more justified than the somewhat arbitrary midvolume divides you get earlier. Doceirias (talk) 21:42, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Support Let try this. We will know that we are below the limit if it processes the reflist as it will be the last template to be processed. --KrebMarkt 21:48, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Nope. We may need to split this in half as well; 1 2 and 3 on one page, and 4 and 5 on another? Not a big fan of arbitrary splits like that, but not sure what else to do. Doceirias (talk) 22:54, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- 1-2-3 & 4-5 ? Without series 5 the article works so we could also have 1-2-3-4 & 5-6-7
- A bit off topic: Do me a favor put further chapters titles between " " (English & Romanji) and put the volumes titles in italic. See MOS:TITLE for the explanation and here for project debate. I will reformatte the titles you already added so you just need to not forget " " when you add a new titles. --KrebMarkt 06:20, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- The key point here is that three actually ends at the end of the volume, making a good breaking point...and six and seven are actually separate series, with their own numbering. I know we're trying to minimize sprawl, but this division seems more logical. Doceirias (talk) 06:51, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Comprise: 1-2-3 & 4-5. 6 & 7 in there own article or in a list 6-7 --KrebMarkt 09:44, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- That sounds good to me, as well. Naruto splits the chapter lists between Part I and Part II, after volume 27. In this case, part 3 ends after volume 29, which isn't really very much longer. The second half resulting from this split would be a bit heftier, at 34 volumes, but we could probably get away with it. =) Also keep in mind we'll need to end up with a "summary" volume table (or rather, series of tables) here, similar to List of Naruto manga volumes (and we'll also have to rename this to List of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga volumes). For this purpose, we should first try using {{Graphic novel list/sublist}} to save ourselves lots of work and redundancy, and hope it doesn't exceed template transclude size limits; if it does, we'll end up having to use a hardcoded table with duplicated info like the Naruto volume list currently does. ···「ダイノガイ千?!」? - That works. Nearly suggested it myself. I'm adjusting volume numbering on six to match the spines, but what should we do about chapter numbering? The series itself has no chapter numbers, and I'm not sure whether we should be starting over, or continuing from the main series chapter numbering. Doceirias (talk) 18:07, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Wait, it doesn't? Does only part six lack chapter numbers, or the whole [meta]series? And are they only missing in the Japanese version, or also in the English licensed version (it's been long enough since I've read any of it, that I've forgotten =P )? We may want wider input from the project on this issue (and, actually, a clearer explanation of just how parts 6 and 7 are figured as sequels, preferably with sources, would be helpful; the whole thing is still rather hazy for me). ···「ダイノガイ千?!」? Talk to Dinoguy1000 20:03, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- The entire series has no chapter numbers at all - except for Steel Ball Run, which starts with 1 and counts up. Parts 1 through 5 are all one series, and the numbering and trade dress are identical. Stone Ocean was sort of a soft relaunch; the "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" logo is smaller, and "Stone Ocean" appears along side it on the covers. Numbering also starts from 1 (64) and both the new numbering and old numbering count upwards. Confusingly. Steel Ball Run was launched as a completely new series, and originally identified as taking place in a parallel world; after it moved to Ultra Jump they started officially referring to it as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7, which starts appearing on the title page - but not on the covers - starting with volume 5. It's a bit of a mess, really. All one series, but with each section stand alone, and marketing itself to be more accessible to new readers. Doceirias (talk) 20:23, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- So it would be safe to say that they're "soft" sequels akin to Code Geass vs. Code Geass: R2, or Part I vs. Part II of Naruto? In that case, I'd be inclined to say continue the count for part 6, and abstain from commenting on SBR (probably, just wing it and see if anyone raises objections at some point), but the whole project really needs to have a discussion on series like this and decide how to handle them, I think.
- I'm not familiar with Code Geass, but Naruto is a direct sequel, and not much connection. These share fundamental setting issues, but each book has an entirely new cast and plot. The main character in six is the daughter of the main character in three, and he does put in a guest appearance, while Steel Ball Run is an alternate reality and has several classic characters in totally new roles. Gundam might be a better parallel. But I agree the project may have some good ideas on how to restructure the current batch of articles into something more logical and encylopedic. Doceirias (talk) 21:54, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Aah, actually Gundam probably would be a pretty good parallel, now that you mention it. Generally, I don't like thinking about this type of stuff (I prefer bending my mind around the stuff in the template namespace =D ), so I say bring the project in already instead of just talking about it. ^_^ ···「ダイノガイ千?!」? Talk to Dinoguy1000 21:59, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, all chapters are now formatted correctly (barring some possible fullwidth characters) and have all relevant information. Ready for the next step. Doceirias (talk) 02:20, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- This may seem a bit trivial in the face of all the other work that's been done (and some of what still needs to be done), but I think probably the next task should be cleaning up all the cover character linking. It'll be a lot easier to get it all done while everything's still here, instead of waiting until after we split into sublists (and at the same time, make sure all the character articles are in Category:JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters and their talk pages are all tagged with {{WikiProject Anime and manga}}). ···「ダイノガイ千?!」? Talk to Dinoguy1000 21:03, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I noticed that, yeah; all characters are linked, even though very few of them actually have articles. I think most would actually work just fine in a character list, frankly; the series has always been more about powers and style than characters. Doceirias (talk) 03:00, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
