blacklisting

[edit]

It's too bad that I can't link to any of the sites that I mention because of wP's blacklisting. Rosenbluh (talk) 23:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

This article needs to establish notability. You can do so by adding secondary sources, and transforming the list into sections that detail what makes each service different and important. --Nezek (talk) 00:43, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • To prevent the spread of spam, I propose that this list should only involve notable (ie: bluelink) subjects. This will also help keep the list discriminate. I'm proposing this after an IP just added what I'd call an obvious spam link to this page, but since there's only one notable entity I'm afraid to get into a revert war over this. Renaming the article

[edit]

"URL redirection service" is a bit vague since this list is mainly concerned with services which reduce the size of a URL. "URL shortener" would be more explicit in my opinion, and it also seems to be more common than "URL redirection service" (50 000 results only on Google against 140 000 for "URL shortener"). Laurent (talk) 23:08, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. I created URL shortening expecting to move a significant amount of information from URL redirection. However URL redirection is so broad a subject that almost everything in URL shortening is new content. On the other hand, I created URL shortening after this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=URL_redirection&diff=292671572&oldid=292650214, therefore List of URL redirection services disappeared and URL shortening#History has something very similar that was taken from TinyURL.
