Black drum, red drum, weakfish, etc.

[edit]

There are several fish species missing from this list. Long Island Sound trawl surveys have detected both redfish and black drum in the Long Island sound, as well as other members of the drum family. The shark list is also a bit short, but that's not the end of the world. Specifically, we're missing too many Sciaenidae fish. I've gone ahead and added that already. Historically, redfish and black drum also have been seen and caught in the waters in and around The Race. Black drum and reds are now caught a few times a year in CT waters farther in - just a few years ago, a black drum was landed in New Haven.

Grouper, wreckfish, snapper, and even Mahi have been caught in the Sound, though closer to the mouth. Long Island Sound is a lot more diverse than most people might know, but especially towards the mouth of the sound (near the Race) is where the most diversity in marine life is found, because it gets closer to the Gulf Stream. I think there needs to be another section added for groupers, possibly snappers. 132.170.207.168 (talk) 18:44, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
