This is a nice list to have, but it needs some direction. What exactly qualifies as a dagger? I take it that this includes all dagger weapons from all times, but does a single edged knife qualify as a dagger? Is a katar really a dagger? What is a the length cut off we'll use between a dagger and a shortsword? Is there a minimum length for a dagger or do all short bladed weapons count? Does it have to be bladed? I've added lots more dagger weapons, but I'm not sure if all of them fit the author's idea for this list.Uroscion (talk) 16:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I don't think that alphabetical order is particularly informative or helpful, shouldn't we rearrange this page by area of origin, by time period of origin, or by type of use? Uroscion (talk) 17:03, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most of these implements were used as utility knives in addition to their use as weapons. If the Roman Pugio is on this list then surely the KA-BAR belongs here also, similar size, similar use by warfighters. But many a kitchen knife has also been used as a weapon. Nearly any knife and many other ordinary objects can be used as a weapon; which causes semantic ambivalence although there is no confusion in the mind of the user at the time. Any attempt at definition or clarification of language should point out the fact that the purpose of an object is not defined by the object itself but rather by the user.
