Merge proposal

To not merge, other things don't exist not being a valid argument; strong support for keeping the current separate pages. Klbrain (talk) 20:54, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No other US state has its own standalone state-level list of its own film festivals existing separately from its section in the US-wide list, and no other subnational division anywhere else in the world has its own standalone divisional list — in fact, for most world countries, even a country-level list of film festivals doesn't currently exist, and instead the country just has a subsection in a continent-wide list. So as it stands, New Jersey is the only subnational division in the entire world which currently has its own separate list of film festivals independently of the country it's part of.

If there were actually any discernible effort being put into improving our collection of lists of film festivals into a much more complete tree than it is, I wouldn't have any issue with splitting the US list up by state — but if that effort isn't being expended, then I don't see a compelling reason why New Jersey would need special treatment that no other state/province/prefecture-level division anywhere else on earth is getting. • Oppose Feel free to create other lists for US States with a lot of film events. Meets WP:NLIST and/or WP:LISTSPLIT imv. As for would need special treatment that no other state/province/prefecture-level division anywhere else on earth is getting. and the only subnational division in the entire world which currently has its own separate list of film festivals independently of the country it's part of.. Well, no. Film_festivals_in_Pristina at least exists, as the nominator perfectly knows since they took it to Afd Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Film_festivals_in_Pristina a few hours after this proposal was made....:D)-My, oh my! Pristina is not a state/province-level division, and that list was taken to AFD because it's a problem. Bearcat (talk) 18:26, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please....Pristina is not a province-level division, thank you, yes: as everyone knows, it's a city and district, which is either a division below (which makes your argument even weaker, I'm afraid) or equivalent to that of a state or province in a federation. Is that really your point? And what you consider a problem is not really evident. Sorry, I mean, evident. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 21:57, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. List of film festivals in the United States already very long. This comprehensive, referenced list would make it much longer. OTHER STUFF exits or doesn't exist is really a rationale for merge since Wikipedia is a work in progress and any of number of sub-national places could easily have such list. Just haven't been made yet. 22:41, 11 June 2024 (UTC) Djflem (talk) 22:41, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. For same reasons as Dj Flem. Just because no ones yet gotten around to sourcing articles for other film-heavy states doesnt mean we should delete this one Bhdshoes2
