I have a question about the names listed. Is this about people actually from Detroit? Because Joni Mitchell certainly isn't, and Dinah Washington is from Chicago (though she did die in Detroit).
how could you leave out MADONNA???? pfft --69.216.111.40 22:43, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. Criteria
What is the criteria for 'from Detroit'? Born here? grew up here? lived here at some point? played a sport for a detroit team at some point? and what of those from the metro area? currently, it seems misleading as 'People from Detroit' and perhaps should follow the lead of the aforementioned List of people from San Francisco page, and move this to 'List of people associated with Detroit'. Also note List of San Franciscans (a separate page entirely), which lists non-native San Franciscans under a separate section. A combination of these ideas, possibly with another section for those from the metro area as well, would make this clearer. Scottr76 02:33, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
The media and published references generally consider it to mean born there, grew up there, or became a resident.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 21:35, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
