Massive (definitive?) update[edit]

I'm in the process of turning this page into a complete list, per Mass. DOE's website, of public school districts in Massachusetts. Eventually, this page will have four main sections: 1. Explanation 2. Academic districts (already half done) 3. Vocational-Technical districts 4. Charter school districts

Sections 2-3 will consist of alphabetical lists, with subsections for each letter.

Section 1 will explain the differences among the three types of districts (really, four types, as "academic" includes both school departments, i.e. confined to one municipality, and regional school districts, i.e. consisting of more than one community). It will also clarify to the reader how information is presented in the list: first, the official name (not the name the district calls itself, but "Blank" School Department or "Blank" Regional School District); second, the towns and grades it serves, in parentheses; third, a link to the official website, if known. At some point I plan to go hunting for official websites, as well.

Someday far in the future -- help would be appreciated, but I'd like to come up with the template first -- I'd like to start filling in individual pages for each district, detailing geographic location, population served, school buildings, enrollment, key personnel (superintendents, perhaps principals), etc. Wiki Wistah 09:55, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charter schools[edit]

Hey, Zr2d2, thanks for the Charter list. I added Websites and Commonwealth / Horace Mann information (yeah, it matters), along with cleaning up some of the location names. I think it's best to use city/town names, as villages and neighborhoods (e.g. Marstons Mills, South Boston) don't really have any governmental standing.

One thing I changed, but will probably change back: to keep consistency with the "Academic school districts" section, I made each of the entries refer to a school district. But that seems like it will create a lot of needless pages, as each charter school organization -- correctly if I'm wrong -- seems to oversee only one school; so we should just list the schools, with a note up top telling readers that each school is a district unto itself. Of course, the Horace Mann schools really aren't; they're actually independent schools within established academic districts. But the DOE Website wants to list them as separate districts, so who are we to quibble?

Incidentally, that point about charter schools probably holds equally for vokes. I don't know of any vo-tech district out there with more than one school. I'll get to those after N-Z. Wiki Wistah 06:54, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charter School WikiLinks[edit]

I was thinking, since most (or all) of the charter school districts only have one school, should we link them to the schools article? Odds are they are not going to create a "district" page.Mparker413 18:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
