"Originally" and "first"

Most of the "originally" and "first" references are incorrect. Generally, these stories were published in other things before they were published in books. We should probably say Published 1990 (for instance) instead of First published 1990. __Elaqueate (talk) 09:27, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Carried Away: A Selection of Stories (2006) / Alice Munro's Best: A Selection of Stories (2008)

Amazon says that Carried Away has the story “The Love of a Good Woman”. I don't know where the source for this list was and can't check it myself to see if it has other problems.... __Elaqueate (talk) 17:31, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Why not ask the author :-) For the named two TOCs my sources are: title page scan of "Carried Away" and title page scan of "Alice Munro's Best". These scans were found via the Swiss catalogues listed in Karlsruhe Virtual Catalog. --Jackentasche (talk) 19:22, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Actually, the source you name I would never trust, and, btw, not even name it. I have developed a habit of using sources that have no interest in selling neither their information nor anything else, for that matter. And I think that this habit produces reliable information. Close Reading of "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" (story)

Recently, a readers' debate has been started on Munro's story "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" (2001 version, the last story in the collection by the same title). This is to say, neither the film is being discussed, nor the version that has been made available online by The New Yorker in 2013 (which seems to be an earlier, much shorter, and less well constructed version of the story published 2001). On 25 October, this debate was started on de.wikipedia.org, see here for a preview of the range of topics under debate. In case you do not read German, you might want to try some automatic translation. Anyway, over on that page, contributions to the debate are welcome in any language. Reorganize into table format? (done)

(draft version, please comment) I think we might reorganize this data into table format. With the data of the alphabetical list, my idea would be to do something like this :

Alternate layout

Jackentasche: If you're willing to have some stories have multiple entries, I think you can simplify the table. Here's an example. The boldface indicates the first time a story was published. Someone interested in the publication history of a particular story can sort by title, someone wanting a chronological list can sort by year, and someone wanting see what's in a particular collection can sort by "published". The citations to the bibliographical apparatus can be added as usual with the <ref> tags and a {{reflist}}.

Let me know if that's not clear. This might not be what your looking for; in that case, no worries. You're the one putting in the hours assembling this page, so you're definitely the one who gets to decide what it looks like.

Thank you, now I get it, this sounds like interesting thinking to me :-) and it looks great, let me think this over. I agree that the 'article feedback' function rarely comes up with anything useful. The peer review route is/was probably more profitable. I think that a table without the need for a key/legend (as is) would be great. Looking at the existing table, would you be able to transfer all the info without a key, except bold/non bold? Drop down menus

I'm also wondering if drop down menus could work well. You could add back in 'short stories by story collections', as a drop down under each collection title. Also 'Short stories by short-story compilation' could use drop downs. I think it would make the list easier to navigate. The format might then be

• Table
• Plain story list
• 'Short stories by story collections' (drop down)
• 'Short stories by short-story compilation' (drop down)
