Succession of SR Yugoslavia[edit]

During the SFR Yugoslav break-up, in 1992, republics Serbia and Montenegro opted to remain in federal arrangement and created the SR Yugoslavia. SR Yugoslavia would in 2003 change it's political arrangement, becoming State Union Serbia and Montenegro, until in 2006 Montenegro restored it's independence, which it had before 1918. However, Serbia remained the sole successor state of the State Union. And ofc, to SR Yugoslavia, since it was the same country, it's just that national team played under a different name.

So, until 1992 - SFR Yugoslavia, no successor state, 5 new countries created. From Apr 1992, SR Yugoslavia = Serbia and Montenegro = Serbia. Country of 9 million, one part of it with 600.000 people declared independence, 6th independent state created, but Serbia remains THE SOLE SUCCESSOR to the state union. Same legal personality under int. law. Same UN membership, only one more name change.

I didn't change anything, because I am not sure if FINA has some "special rules", but for the international community, Serbia is the same legal entity that was created in April 1992, albeit under third name thus far. I don't wanna "fight" over medals, but I would like page creators who, presumably, love both water polo and fair play, to consider this argument. 109.245.207.232 (talk) 15:04, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
