Perhaps there should be a special article on Honorary Doctorates. Ph.D. and other degrees have their special articles. We see Litt.D. and LL.D.s all the time.--drboisclair 11:55, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
But isn`t a Litt.D. or LL.D. more of a senior than an honorary doctorate? As far as I`m aware Litt.D's and LL.D's are, as a rule, only awarded to academics of high standing, whereas an 'honorary' doctorate is more of a courtesy title. It might be a good idea to start a sep. article on honorary doctorates though.. not sure if I know enough about them... --Isolani 11:59, 3 November 2005 (UTC) Honorary degree already exists, btw --Isolani 12:01, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Litt.D.s and LL.D.s are just as honorary as D.D.s. I believe that D.D. has its own page too. D.D.s are awarded in the same way as Litt.D.s and LL.D.s are. My alma mater awards LL.D.s as well as D.D.s even as a theological school. drboisclair 12:08, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
In Commonwealth nations, the Litt.D. and D.Sc. can be either honorary degrees or higher doctorates (awarded on the basis of distinguished scholarly work at a level far higher than that required for the Ph.D.). Unfortunately, the same degree designations are used for both honorary doctorates and higher doctorates.
