The name is derived from loussa meaning salmon or salmon family fish. - The name is of Old Norse origin and means "light", hence it is named Ljusnan today (ljus is Swedish for light). The name is related to the town Ljusdal ("Ljusnan dale", more fully "the light river dale") in Hälsingland, which was spelled Lyusdal in 1314. //Heimvennar - divider 21:26, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
