Notable?[edit]

I added a few sources from outside the hobby, the article still needs quite a bit of work, but it appears to be notable enough to keep. XeroxKleenex (talk) 03:34, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the addition, but I still don't see it. To be notable, the hobby must be the subject of substantial coverage in independent reliable sources. At present, we don't have sources cited for anything in the article, but we do have "External links".
The "Global Lottery Collector's Society" is a primary source, not helpful for notability.
"A catalogue of the UK National Lottery Scratchcards" is... um... well, a deadlink to (I guess) someone's collection. A WP:SPS, not helpful for notability.
"An image-based U.S. catalog with text search and lists by GLCS and State Game numbers is at lotology.net" Yes, it exists. A primary source, not helpful for notability.
"'Lotologist' has amassed 250,000 used lotto tickets". While the follow up story, "'Lotologist' dies in house fire" doesn't show up anywhere, "lotterypost.com" does not seem to be a reliable source ("a place for lottery players to discuss, share, and discover anything and everything about lottery games around the world.")
"Unused lottery tickets worth more than their prizes to collectors" might be useful. At present, it needs an origin. Plain text page says Houston Chronicle, with no date. The site, texnews.com redirects to Abilene Reporter-News. I don't dispute it as a source. Unfortunately, most of the content is interviews with individuals and general information about lotteries. The limited info is generalities that can be stated about any collecting hobby: "...collectors' groups claim membership in the hundreds. They host conventions where people buy and swap _________. And, of course, there are Internet sites devoted to the hobby..." Fill in the blank with Beanie Babies, baseball cards, 17th century Spanish coins, pizza boxes... We need more than this.
"20 Obscure Words to Describe Collectors" proves, again, WP:ITEXISTS.
This is all (except for the newspaper article) similar to what I found: It exists, the collectors themselves have organized, there's little else to say. We might have a line or two at Lottery. I'll give it a few days before suggesting a WP:SMERGE. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:29, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
