Duplicated article
[edit]This is a bona-fide article created by a new user. It happens to duplicate an existing article Palaio Loutro. --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 07:21, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand. Why not redirect this article, if the two articles are indeed about the same place? AnturiaethwrTalk 15:34, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I *think* they are about the same place, not entirely sure. (Palaio Loutro means "Old Bath", so Loutro must be "Bath". They might be distinct places. Check Loutro (a preexisiting disamb), it omits the "Palaio". That is probably an error too, but... --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 17:18, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, if you're not entirely sure, then I'm not either. I, for one, am going to give this one the benefit of the doubt and leave it alone. AnturiaethwrTalk 18:06, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I just redirected the article after finding it tagged for speedy as a duplication of Palaio Loutro. I assumed that it was a duplication because the lede referred to it as "Palaio Loutro", but I've just realised it was Jorge Stolfi who made that change so I'm now not sure, given that you're not sure... I'll ask the original creator to come here and comment. Olaf Davis (talk) 13:03, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- It's also just been pointed out to me that this may even be the correct name, with the redirect needing to be in the opposite direction... Olaf Davis (talk) 13:41, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

- A search through Google Maps strongly suggests that these are not the same place, as I'd thought when I did the CSD tagging. There is a Loutro in Messenia (37.261422, 22.001017) and to its southeast a Paleo Loutro (not Palaio Loutro, so there's some doubt over the correct spelling now) at 37.11155, 21.773257. Judging from the satellite and terrain maps Loutro doesn't appear to be a mountain village either, but Paleo Loutro does. On that basis I'm going to undo the redirect. --Malleus Fatuorum 15:08, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Nice job, Malleus. Olaf Davis (talk) 15:39, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- "Palaio" is the Greek word for "old". For example, the US has adapted it as in "Paliative Care" meaning care for the old or infirmed. Semera (talk) 18:00 22 OCtober 2016 (EST)
Population figures
[edit]I've added an infobox with geographical co-ordinates so as to avoid the earlier confusion with Palaio Loutro, but the latest population figures I could find in English were for 1991. Can someone who reads Greek follow the link and update the stats? --Malleus Fatuorum 16:14, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
