Renaming to Lumia apps
[edit]I would suggest renaming the article to Lumia apps, and then any Lumia-branded or Lumia-specific apps can be included. NeoGeneric 💬 03:35, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- I Agree ¿but what would be specific about it? Nokia/Microsoft Mobile has dozens of applications that might fall under it, and Lumia has plenty of exclusives that could work with such an ambiguous term, for example TDKR, Microsoft Modern Mayor, Microsoft Climate Mission, Microsoft Climate Mission 3D, Messaging+, Winter Ski & Ride, Univision, Six Flags Holland, the Filipino newspaper the Inquirer, Oreo Skies, Microsoft Education Delivery, L'Wren Scott - Upgrade, JobLens, Internships Lens, Goal.com 2012 Finals, Connected Stores (for both mobile telephones and the Nokia Lumia 2520), App Social, App Social BetaLabs, 101 Jakarta FM, 103.1 Gen FM Surabaya, 98.7 Gen FM Jakarta, #MoWithLove, #InstaWithLove, Nokia Chat powered by Yahoo!, Baby Kingdom (Traditional-Chinese), Toddler Kingdom (Taditional-Chinese), RenRen, Zinio, Weather, SophieLens for Nokia, Ringtone Maker, Nokia Trailers, Nokia Xpress, Nokia NFC Writer, Nokia Phone Recycler, Nokia Tones, Nokia Army (Spartan Nation), Mission 31, Microsoft Data Gathering, Groupon, Microsoft Flashcards, ESPN Hub, Burton, AppSocial Migrations, #TileArt, Soundtracker, Social News Beta, SIM Applications, Run Rabbit Run, Real-time Blend Demo, real-time Filter demo, Places, Photo Inspector, Music Explorer, Map Explorer, Lumia Connect, Lumia Beamer, Lens Blur, DrumkitX, Circuit Mag, Buienradar.nl, Boston University JobLens, Audio Recorder, Activities, YouSendIt, Work Item Studio, Steps, Sound Stack, Space Selfie, Angry Birds Roost, My Nokia, My Lumia, Treasure Tag, 100th Day of School, Lumia Help+Tips/Nokia Care, Nokia TV, Voddler, iBrisa, Lumia VIP (Viet-Nam only), Nokia Glance Screen, Glance Backgrounds, Hey Cortana (at this point as it's a Lumia exclusive), Try Lumia, and Microsoft Pocket Magnifier. (this is an incomplete list, you can help by expanding it)
- As you may have noticed these applications don't share much in common, the common trend between the Lumia photo apps is that they were A) developed by Nokia Lund (Scalado), B) tend to have purple live tiles, C) work with Nokia's/Microsoft Mobile's imaging technology and integrates with the Lumia Imaging SDK, and D) are mostly Lumia branded (which could also be used as an argument for Lumia apps). I know that your argument was for Lumia-branded applications, but the term Lumia Apps remains ambiguous.
- (Don't get me wrong, I'm for Lumia Apps, I'm just playing Devil's advocate here)

- Personally I would've rather chosen to merge this article with Microsoft Lumia proper as the hardware and software of these devices are practically synonymous, but then we'd run in the chance that the Microsoft Lumia page might become too bloated, of course then we could always split the hardware comparison lists into a new article called Comparison of Lumia devices in the same model as Google Nexus' comparison page. At present it's hard to tell the difference between Microsoft Mobile and Microsoft Lumia as they do co-exist and seem to perform different functions, but Microsoft Lumia seems to act as a real hardware and software division within Microsoft which is why the app development happens in the Lumia Beta Apps Labs, and why all the social media pages formerly by Nokia are now Microsoft Lumia, but then again Microsoft Mobile exists largely as a legal body only as opposed to a real division of Microsoft, I bring this up because I'm trying to establish that this article could be a part of the Microsoft Lumia page, it would also remove the ambiguity of either Lumia Imaging Apps and Lumia Apps and could include other applications such as Lumia Gestures, the Lumia Car App, App Social, Etc. while still including these, but then again that would raise the question ¿how is this different from Microsoft Mobile again? at present it's almost impossible to discriminate between Microsoft Mobile and Microsoft Lumia when it comes to applications as the Windows Phone Store publisher is called "Microsoft Mobile" but the official announcement site is "Lumia Conversations", the beta variants are in the "Lumia beta apps Labs", and they're Lumia branded, as a standalone article I fear that it might be too ambiguous and as a collection of sections in Microsoft Lumia I fear that it would blur the lines with it and Microsoft Mobile. I don't feel strong either way...

NeoGeneric I could always suggest another name, Lumia software which could include Motion Data, and could also include the Lumia updates, and most services from Microsoft Mobile, or better just merge this page with Microsoft Lumia and split the tables below the "list of devices" line. ¿What do you think? Sincerely, --86.81.201.94 (talk) 22:06, 14 April 2015 (UTC) (Alternatively Namlong618)
- @Namlong618: Forgive my belated response, I hadn't considered the ambiguity introduced with all the other apps which you mentioned in your first reply! So I think Lumia software is a good compromise. Now what apps does this encompass? I personally think that editors should be free decide on what software is notable enough to be mentioned in the article (and resolve conflicts through discussion); personally I think apps explicitly named Lumia e.g. and OEM apps (like glance) should at least be included.
- And after some thought, I would oppose merging this article with the Microsoft Lumia. I think your ideas of moving update history into this article, and a separate hardware comparison page are sound.
- Sincerely, NeoGeneric 💬 13:05, 17 April 2015 (UTC)
- NeoGeneric Good ideas, but in that case "Lumia system software" or "Lumia device software" would probably do better do, well "Lumia Software" is generic enough (no pun intended) to fit the non-preinstalled applications as well, but merging in the firmware updates might hinder traffic, but then again it would make as much sense here, anyhow I support the move, note that I lost the password to Namlong618 so I can't move pages. Anyhow "imaging apps" is by far the worst name as it excludes the Lumia Car App, Lumia Help+Tips, Glance Screen, Etc. but as they were all developed by the division formerly known as Scalado it would make sense for them to keep a separate section.
- Lumia Software
- Device software (items listed under settings)
- Lumia imaging apps
- Other Lumia-branded applications
- ¿What do you think?
