Heroine

[edit]

For the novel's heroine, the mistress of Manderley, however, there is an atmosphere of doom about it, because of the death of Max's first wife, and it is hinted that she haunts the house.

I'm considering removing this as it could lead readers to the assumption that the current mistress of Manderley and Rebecca are the same person. The "Rebecca" of the title is not the current Mrs Max de Winter (who is never named at all), but the first one, now dead. The current wife is sometimes referred to as "The Heroine", but whether she is a "heroine" (small h) is debatable. Any suggestions for improvement? JackofOz 01:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did this happen? It's hardly portrayed as a lovely home. --JBellis (talk) 11:09, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
