From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maxine's last call for alcohol was given about 10–15 minutes before midnight. "Last call for alcohol, We don't care where you go, just get the hell out." The T-Room had a bowling machine just as you walk in the door. Many dollar exchanged hands on friendly bets. Across the walkway were three pinball machines. Every Monday the vending company guy would come in during the afternoon to "rob" the machines. He and Maxine would split the quarters at the domino table at the end of the bar. Sacks of quarter would go to McElroy Bank in short order. Maxine won gillions more quarters, half dollars and silver dollars in Vegas and Reno. She was the consummate slot play. And, her husband, Jim Miller, was a craps player. Maxine had her sisters work at the bar as well. Helen, with husband Wimpy, Bun and her daughter Margie, and Maxine's brother. This tavern was the best time for a ton of U of A students, their kids, and grand kids. Most college students had their first college beer at the Taproom. Maxine would take care of all the customers just like family. Maxine was a great lady and friend to all. You sure did not want to be on her bad side. She was great.
