Untitled[edit]

"Toxeus and Plexippus (Althaea's brothers) grew enraged that the prize was given to a woman. Meleager killed them in the following argument. He also killed Iphicles and Eurypylus for insulting Atalanta. Since Meleager had killed her two brothers, Althaea placed the brand back upon the fire, killing him."

"Since Meleager had killed her two brothers, Althaea placed the brand back upon the fire, killing him": this makes no sense whatsoever at all. What is "the brand"? I cannot even begin to correct this. It makes less sense than the Chewbacca defence.

To whomever asked this question, after Meleager had killed Althaea's brothers, Althaea was outraged. Remember the Fates had predicted Meleager would die when a brand was engulfed with flames, and how Althaea stole the brand, ensuring Meleager would live forever? Well, Althaea took the brand that she had stolen and through it into a fire, and, just as the Fates had predicted, Meleager died. The author of this article probably could have worded that differently. And you get points for the Star Wars referance. The Source(s) for Meleagrides' Sisters Turning into Guineafowls?[edit]

Currently the article claims that "[t]he women who mourned his death were turned into guineafowl (Meleagrides)." As far as I can tell, no ancient source claims anything beyond what's in Lemprière's Classical Dictionary of Proper Names, so I wonder where does the guineafowl come from? Was the species a common one in those parts of Europe at that time?
