Close Relations with Hymenochirus[edit]

In studies conducted by Scientist Chabanaud in 1920, the first distinction was made between Pseudhymenochirus and Hymenochirus. These species are related in similar ways. They both are found to have Upper and lower eyelids Chanbanaud illustrated and radiographed the two to demonstrate their similarities. Later on in his research, he also discovered that the species Xenopus, a Pipidae phylum, was closely related to Pseudhymenochirus but surprisingly not Hymenochirus. Which then demonstrated the relationship between Pseudhymenochirus and the two species, leading on to him believing that “ Pseudhymenochirus was an exact intermediate in external characters” (D.C Cannatella and L. Trueb, p.444) ^[1]
