I should have this to you by tomorrow at the latest JAGUAR  18:53, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments[edit]

  • "she is widely regarded as one of the greatest film actors of all time" - is this meant to read 'actresses'? Or is she regarded as one of the greatest out of both male and female actors?
Yes, plus to be politically correct..♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:11, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) ... and to (maybe) comply with MOS:GNL. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:21, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oof. It's not like me to suggest anything politically correct - please change it to anything you like JAGUAR  18:29, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Streep has received 29 Golden Globe nominations, winning eight, more nominations and more competitive (non-honorary) wins than any other actor (male or female) in history" - this sentence is a bit choppy. I would re-structure this into something like Streep has also received 29 Golden Globe nominations, out of which she won eight. She also received more nominations and more competitive (non-honorary) wins than any other actor (male or female) in history
that would repeat "also" though, I've altered slightly.
  • "at times when she needed later needed an injection of confidence" - too many "needed"s
fixed.
  • "Author Karina Longworth described her as a "gawky kid with glasses and frizzy hair", yet notes that she liked to show off" - noted
done.
  • "in which Streep is ordered by an SS guard at Auschwitz" - just for the reader's sake, I would link Schutzstaffel to SS for more accessibility
done
  • "harder-to-grasp emotions".[16]Among several notable acting awards" - space after citation
done
  • "The year 1983 saw Streep play her first real-life character" - minor, but would it sound better as "non-fiction" character?
done
  • "Streep "never seemed to play herself", and certain critics felt her technical finesse led people to see her acting" - should 'see' be italicised if it is not quoted here?
reworded.
  • "and Streep was nominated for a Irish Film and Television Best Actress Award" - this does not have a citation
I can't find a source, We hope?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
IMDB is about the only one with a decent listing for this. We hope (talk) 14:56, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "a real-life New Yorker who found passion and enlightenment teaching violin to inner-city kids in East Harlem, in the music drama Music of the Heart" - slight repetition in this sentence. I would replace the "in East Harlem" to of East Harlem
done.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Streep replaced singer Madonna" - link Madonna!
done.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Streep entered the 2000s with an uncredited voice cameo in Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence, a science fiction film about a childlike android, played by Haley Joel Osment, uniquely programmed with the ability to love, voicing the Blue Fairy" - a bit choppy. How about Streep entered the 2000s with an uncredited voice cameo as the Blue Fairy in Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence, a science fiction film about a childlike android that is uniquely programmed with the ability to love? Or something similar to that
Shortened.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "much-delayed feature drama Dark Matter (2007)" - if the film was released in 2008 why is 2007 in brackets?
removed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:33, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Streep labeled Walt Disney (d. 1966)" - is there any need for his death date here?
removed.
  • The last paragraph in the Other work section is not in chronological order
moved up.

References[edit]

  • Ref 5 is dead - perhaps it could be archived
(talk page stalker) Didn't find a Wayback machine, so I cited the awards with two other references instead. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:01, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Doc, how about this? If you want the photo we can do that too--it was taken by the White House Staff, so it's PD. We hope (talk) 14:06, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

done.

On hold[edit]

That's all of the initial prose issues I could find, but overall this article is well researched and well written. I did spot a few choppy sentences here and there and I thought some parts of the lead are a bit "list-y" but that's in the FA league! I'll leave this on hold if you still want to ask more people to look at this. I personally thought that Streep's portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady was incredible and couldn't have been done better by anyone else! JAGUAR  13:14, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers Jaguar, all answered I think. Well, I think I'll open a peer review at a later date, they can all comment then rather than now. I will ask SchroCat though to give it a read and edit. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:37, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks everyone for all the extra work put into this. This article now meets the GA criteria. I wish you luck for bringing this important article up to FA, in the future of course! JAGUAR  18:30, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
